Talk of Bowers at 10 Picking up Steam; Looking at Day 3 QB’s
RedBeardedSavage replied to JetNation's topic in NY Jets Forum
No, there’s a bunch of later OT’s that I’m interested in - just not in them playing meaningful snaps this year. They’re longer term investments. Of course, if it comes down to it, and we drafted Bowers or one of the WR’s, I’d absolutely look at the OT’s left in FA. But they’re there for a reason - age, injury or poor recent play, likely some combination. Our track record with the Ryan Khalil / Duane Brown type FA’s hasn’t been great. -
Hurt me

This is a much better argument for drafting a WR AT 10 (and possibly even trading up a few spots for one if you have to) than it is for trading for Aiyuk

So you don't want the Jets to take a OL in the 3rd and beyond? How about FA, would that suffice? -

Not even close Carter sucked from year one IMO Im sure the Jets realized pretty quick Carter was not a very good RB -

Why do you think Smith won't come back here next year? Assuming Rodgers is back. -

Both of those players were mid round picks @ tackle and we’ve seen them forced to start before because of injuries. Carter Warren is an emergency start and Max Mitchell is safely in the “I never want to see touch the field again.” If Tyron wasnt injury prone, if Moses wasn’t coming off an injury, if AVT wasn’t both, both of your arguments would be a lot more persuasive. -
I don’t have a database, it came from an article this was in: Scouting reports don’t really do much for me. It turns into an echo chamber. They talk about how he runs routes like a receiver, but he did so much behind the line of scrimmage and on such low volume that if he *was* a receiver they’d claim that his usage was gadget-y and they’d question how it would translate. Maybe I’m quibbling on your use of the word dominant, I don’t know. To me needing to game plan against someone doesn’t make them dominant. Bowers never had a season with 1,000 receiving yards in college. Really efficient and productive from the start of his career? Absolutely. Dominant? To me Nabers and Odunze were dominant this year. Teams changed how they defended Washington because they couldn’t stop Odunze and he still produced. Daniels was probably dominant this year. Harrison given the above I think you can make that argument. Bowers probably had a little stretch mid season but we just don’t have the benefit of seeing it flushed out. I would be curious to see more data and I wonder if Harmon did Bowers. I have seen @Lith that he thinks the Georgia offense was more impacted by McConkey’s absences than Bowers’, for whatever that’s worth.

Seriously What’s the point of spending mid-round picks on OL if Jets fans are sh*tting themselves over the prospect of them having to start a few games? Aren’t these guys being drafted in the hopes of being groomed to be eventual starters or at least be able to fill in for a few games without the entire offense going to hell in a hand basket? 90% of the starting OL in the league are former mid-late round picks and UDFA’s. But if Tyron Smith misses a few starts, we need a rookie Top 10 pick waiting in the wings… This sh*t is madness and I’ve usually been part of the crowd banging the table for OL in the past. -

Perhaps it's because they need an OT of the future given both of their current starters are 33 year old one year rentals? -

Just curious, who and when, if you're JD?

It’s nauseating. The player on this team that is by far the worst at his position than any other is holding this team hostage. If this guy ever gets in the building again I could see another IK incident.
-
Trading down and picking up a second seems like the best option. Obviously there needs to be a team willing to move up. But that’s my preferred option now. McConkey or Worthy PLUS Amegadjie or Suamataia or Paul is better than anyone who will be there at 10.

Are you concerned drafting Fuaga if he is projected at RT? Would that be wise with the possibility that Carter Warren takes over for Morgan next year? Odunze has been downgraded a bit for not being a great route runner, almost relying too much on his contested catch ability. What do you see that some scouts don’t? Completely agree the Jets might not know how to optimize Bowers.
-
Maybe the morons who made him the biggest bust? Who are still very much around and may get another draft pick to bust on? I know I know, that’s a crazy thought, I just can’t wait till he’s cut And we can win the SB he’s stopping us from at 3rd string qb

That’s what’s exactly happening. Wilson gave the Jets his desired locations, which didn’t come through on a trade. Now, we’ll see dribs and drabs of damage control from both sides (Woody already gave us a peek). Watching Saleh pump up Zach again this year while keeping a straight face will at least be entertaining.

Carter Warren and Max Mitchell are plenty young. -
^ Any GM when they even hear Zach Wilson’s name.

If it's for bringing in a veteran WR, I hope he is considering that. You have that luxury of not caring if the team cohesion is upset. Again, they're not assembling a fantasy football roster for the year. These are people with personalities and personal incentives. If there's misery it spreads, and you can bet it'll affect any hopes of signing another player with incentives ever again. Unless they trade Mike Williams after acquiring Aiyuk it'd be a problem all year long, and could spill over into being a long-term problem with free agents at any position. No such issues if they draft one, even in the top 10, as Williams had to know before he signed that that was a realistic possibility.

Its unsustainable. At least Severino got through 6 innings today. And then with the offense exploding late we were able to get another rest day for the top guys. Really nice to finish off the sweep before heading out west. I hate these west coast trips.
-
He'll get picked up if cut, yes. But I don't see a trade of any kind being possible any longer, even if the Jets eat nearly all the money in the deal. He has 1 year left on his deal. Why do a 7th round pick swap for Zach, then have to decided on extending him, when you could just use that same 7th rounder on a dirt cheap rookie QB arriving on a 4-year deal? And if Zach can't be traded and Woody's comment about not cutting him is to be taken seriously....he's back next year. Thus sucking up the QB3 spot and preseason snaps away from a rookie QB we should be taking instead.
-
Yep, much conflicting information/draft status on this player

Wouldn't a 3rd rounder be fine as an insurance policy, why does it have to be the 10th overall pick.
