Cromartie, the 10-year pro, finished his second tour of duty with the Green & White this past season. The Jets traded with San Diego for him in 2010 and he was a Jet for four seasons, from 2010-13. He was released in 2014 and spent that season as a starter with Arizona under then-defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. He was signed by the Jets as an unrestricted free agent last March 12. This past season "Cro" had 33 tackles, two tackles for loss, both against Jacksonville, a fumble recovery in the season opener against Cleveland, and a team-leading 16 pass defenses, three coming against Tennessee. "Cro" also had the most kickoff returns for the Jets, 15 in all for a 25.1-yard return average. Cromartie, who began his NFL career as the Chargers' first-round choice, 19th overall, in '06, has 34 career interceptions in the regular season and playoffs, 13 of them coming as a member of the Jets. He made 78 regular-season and three postseason starts for the Jets.

This season Heimerdinger was in his third season as a scout for the St. Louis Rams. As a player personnel analyst, he evaluated both pro and college players. His pro responsibilities included evaluating all players on nine NFL rosters, and on the college side he was the Rams' Southwest area scout. Heimerdinger enters his sixth season in the NFL. Before the Rams, he served as a scouting intern with Houston when Maccagnan was in the Texans' scouting department, and he also worked with the Tennessee Titans. Heimerdinger played wide receiver at Colorado State before finishing his collegiate career at Northern Colorado.

He was a Cardinals RB for seven seasons from 2001-07, was on the Texans' offseason roster in '08, and spent four seasons with the United Football League's Las Vegas Locomotives, three as a player and 2012 as a coach. Shipp was born in Paterson, NJ, played his high school ball at Passaic Tech in nearby Wayne, and had an outstanding playing career at UMass.
