Jacobs to Rex: Scrooge you

Talk Is Cheap, Play the Game took an unexpected and vicious holiday the minute Giants 29, Jets 14 ended yesterday.

That was when Brandon Jacobs became the mouth that roared back at Rex Ryan.

“Rex Ryan is a disrespectful bastard,” Jacobs said to ESPN, later adding, “The Jets have a big-mouthed, big-bellied coach that talks too much.”

All the animosity and bad will Ryan has spread across Big Blue Nation over the past three years was shoved back in Ryan’s face both on the field and after the game by the lead bully of a Giants team that bullied Mark Sanchez and the Jets — their little brother Jets — and kept their NFC title hopes alive with the Cowboys showdown looming a week from today.

Jacobs message for Ryan?

“You need to shut up,” Jacobs said. “He’s a great coach, and I take nothing away from him. Comes from a great coaching family, but he just needs to shut up.”

That was Jacobs’ message delivered through the media. On the field after the Battle of New York, Jacobs delivered his message in person.

“Well you know I didn’t really say too much to him,” Jacobs said.

“I know he told me, ‘Shut the F up. Wait ’til we win the Super Bowl.’

“And I told him I’ll punch him in his face.”

Jacobs was asked if he had said something to Ryan prior to that exchange.

“I told him out of all of these Giant players on this football team, you’re talking to the wrong one,” Jacobs said.

Was that the first part of the conversation?

“I wasn’t talking to him. ... He just came out of nowhere and started at me,” Jacobs said. “It was a great win for us. I don’t want to harp on that.

“We’re gonna celebrate this win, and I’m gonna let him have the worst Christmas he can have.”

Jacobs said that Ryan went after him “the way his pops [buddy] went after [Kevin] Gilbride. And ran afterwards.”

Jacobs was informed Ryan had admitted he was wrong and conceded the Giants were the better team.

“He woke up the morning after their game last week knowing that,” Jacobs said. “He just felt that he needed to give himself and his team some confidence. That’s all.”

Ryan’s reaction to the rift?

“We had a private conversation. That’s all I’ll leave it as. Whatever. He doesn’t like me. I respect him but I could care less about him.”

Jacobs then bowled over Jets fans.

“I think we had more fans in the stadium than they did, and that’s the way it was supposed to be because it’s Giants Stadium ... aka MetLife stadium,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs was thrilled the Jets were on the schedule at the perfect time.

“I’m glad we had we had the Jets after the loss that we had against Washington,” he said. “I knew that they were gonna fold, no matter what, to be honest with you, the way they been playing. And who am I to talk about the way they’ve been playing? We haven’t played great. But I knew that they were gonna be the ones to crack because as far as them as an offense, I don’t think they have what it took to beat us.”

Jacobs was asked about the level of disrespect the Giants felt from Ryan. “We didn’t really pay attention to it, to be honest with you, ’cause we knew that’s what we were gonna get. ... No matter what happened, we knew that’s what we were gonna get as soon as he had an opportunity to run his big fat mouth. We knew that.”

Does this validate the way Tom Coughlin goes about his business?

“Shut up and play,” Jacobs said. “And that’s what he tells us and that’s what he’s still trying to get across to me.”

Who gives a ****. Jet fans bathe in Rex big talk when things are going well, when it isnt all of a sudden he should shut his mouth as if its "getting old"????? The saying should be SOJ as in "Same ol Jetfans" when bitching about stuff they loved just 15 minutes ago.

This is who Rex Ryan is, we knew this even when we were debating who was going to be the next coach between Spags/Rex/Cowher.

When he got here and began to be "himself" we loved it. We pretend like this guy is losing with a superbowl caliber team. Granted he has some pieces here (Revis, Mangold, Wilkerson etc.) but outside of that Rex has had this Jets team practically overachieve in respects to the actual talent.

In Baltimore he had stars on every level of his defense From Suggs to Lewis to Reed. He doesnt have that here in NY and he's gotten this team to respond rather quickly with the lack of talent.

He is far from an offensive mind, I know, but this is a situation that he and Tanny need to seriously fix. Get a guy who can run an offense to where it can average 6 pts a quarter and Rex Ryan will be a superbowl winning coach.

I not f'ing concerning myself with Brandon Jacobs. We got our a$$ handed to us yet we're so concerned about who said what. I leave that up to women to do that. Such a soap opera this sh*t has become. Fire Schotty, Get a QB that can compete for the position instead of Brunell who's just in the league because of financial trouble.

This team if it drafts well and gets the correct coaching personnel will be a force, especially with guys like Brady not getting any younger in this division.

Jacobs is a huge mouthy a$$hole, but in this case he was the lesser of two mouthy assholes.

Could not agree more. Jacobs is a guy who hurled his helmet into the stands out of frustration.

And when he is compared to Rex right now, I am reading it thinking wow Jacobs is coming off very classy here. He said Rex is a great coach that needs to talk less. Seems to be good advice.

Rex is one way with the media, gets them laughing and all that. And he is complimentary. But the way he talks smack to players on the other team? That is pure garbage. Someone above Rex in this organization needs to have a sit down.

Rex your strategy is not working. You are a great defensive mind. You have a good record as a head coach. Time to evolve and take it to the next level.

What concerns me is the lack of discipline on this team right now. Cause and effect? Not sure but all the hype and smack talk simply can't help.

Jacobs may talk a lot. but Rex is clearly wrong here. What head coach in the NFL tells a player after the game to STFU? Rex sought out Jacobs, had is say. and is not man enough to admit he was wrong, Rex is a fat loud-mouthed wind bag who had a pile of sh*t shoved in his face yesterday. Take that Rex!!

You have a point. Im just pissed bro. I feel like we're complaining about stuff thats irrelevant. If Rex never opened his mouth in confidence the fashion in which this team loses football games wouldnt be any less impactful. Yesterday showed how important Jim Leonhard is at safety. Im beginning to think that we actually need to go back to the 4-3 defense because our linebacking core is terrible at the rush. The WR's are not giving all they have and why should they?...Schotty never throws the ball down the field and when we're in the redzone this dude completely forgets about the run game. WR's are practically blockers on this team. I've tried to give Sanchez the benefit of the doubt but even he after yesterdays game shown me that he's just not good right now when having to play from behind, but I still think that its schotty not putting him in better situations. Sanchez isnt a star QB, but I do think he'd be good enough to run an average offense at least. This offense looks bad no matter who we play. That isnt just the talent on the field. Schotty is absolutely terrible and something has to be done about this plain and simple. We dont have playmakers, but for what its worth I think that this teams record would be worse under a different head coach.

I think to have a coach so outspoken has created a space to where players from around the league wants to play for him. His mouth/personality/competitiveness has done more for this organization the past 3 years than any other facet that I can remember the prior 12 years of me following this team outside of drafting Revis, but even in that it took Rex to utilize him the way he has in order for people to see how good he is. I remember when Rex talked about Revis during his initial hire and he said he felt that he had the best CB in the league, and this is before Revis was tearing up the league in the fashion he is today.

Yes the same buffoon that has been the best Jets coach since Tuna & before him Walt Michaels? Yes he should be fired now for the way he talks to the media. We need Herm back!

He can be a buffoon and a good coach, it's not exactly mutually exclusive..

saying just wait till we win a sb, to a team that just won a sb 3 years ago is a buffoonish

So who cares? The Jets were always 2nd class citizens before Rex came around. Who's been the talk of the town the last 3 years. So much so that you can tell the jealousy on the Giants players & fans. Rex has given the Jets an identity with his brashness. Who cares if he looks like a buffoon at times, I'll take that with all the good he's done. Quite frankly, I'll take this buffoon over the Herm & Mangini clowns
