RichardSeymour
Sorry I been gone so much.... FWIW Barton you are going to win our bet, and I will pay up.... Here's my .02 on NE. Our defense has been just as bad as it looks on paper. Our running game has been just as bad as it looks on paper. Tom Brady has been just as good as he looks on paper. Maybe more. Without Brady this team is 3-8 right now, tops (and I'm talking, replace him with a decent starter in this league, not Flutie). Only other significant plus has been that even with some injuries our receiving corps is a plus. If you try to disrespect Brady or use this season as an argument against him I will tear out your eyes and skullf*ck you. I say that with love though. Injuries hurt, some mistakes in offseason hurt, shortage of coaches hurt. OL hurts. RBs hurt. DBs hurt. LBS disappoint. DL disappoints. TEs, good. But have to stay in and block on passing downs far more often than you'd like.... or if they do run routes Brady has rushers in his face right away. Kaczur's doing an OK job for a rookie at LT. He has some solid games, some ugly moments. Mankins is good. A few mistakes but generally tough and a fierce blocker. Really like the kid. Ignoring the question of whether we may have had bigger needs, he was a great pick at 32. Hobbs is nice. Struts too much, gambles a bit, but way better than most we've put out this year and a guy who will be a worthwhile player to have in this league. We've had close games with NO, MIA, and BUF. Don't think this is an auto-loss. We should win though. We WILL score, and we're a good bad team in aggregate, because of Brady.

RichardSeymour
and btw, for all that we will make the playoffs. If we do not improve our defense or run game substantially, it will be one and done unless Brady is having a walk-on-water day. If we improve a bit, we're an underdog, but have a fringe shot. We'd have to make a real big leap, like we did in 2001 around the middle of the season, to become a real "serious" threat. But no, I am not giving hope. NE is alive and kicking. I'm honest about our flaws, but I still feel priveleged to root for this team.
Gang Green Girl
and btw, for all that we will make the playoffs. You're not exactly going out on a limb there, RS. There isn't much competition in the division. How far will they go in the playoffs?
RichardSeymour
You're not exactly going out on a limb there, RS. There isn't much competition in the division. How far will they go in the playoffs? Right now 1 and done. If they get a run game.... 1 in 3 chance of making it to Divisionals where they get harshly dealt with. If they get a run game and a mediocre defense... solid shot at divisionals, outside at AFC, micro at SB If defense were miraculously to hit 8-12 caliber.... we'd be in business, though pass pro and run game would have to jump way up too to really be a team to fear. If Brady absolutely walks on water, all bets off, but I think there are limits to what clutchness can do. Right now we are the 2005 49ers with slightly better receivers and a HoF QB. I sh** you not. We do have more potential upside than them as well.... we MIGHT get better.... we still have some very good players.... but right now, that's what we are. I really feel like the biggest blow to the defense (besides Bruschi since he is back now) was Harrison. He was feared by everyone. The team is just haveing a run of bad injuries this year like the Jets, but without losing Brady. As much as I hate to say it, the Patriots will still be in the hunt for the AFC EAST for a while. I am willing to bet they sign Ty Law next year for cheap. He may not be in his prime, but still effective. Atleast the Patriots don't have a 64MIL QB coming off 2 shoulder surgeries. Garb
One and done in the playoff's (if they make it) is right considering who the Pats first opponent will be: Cincy or SD. Palmer/Brees would have a field day on the Pats defense. The only hope is that the Pats could possibly face the Jaguars.
