BroadwayJ667
So I'm already tired of some of the fans who are already down on the Sparano hiring. Some of you who have gone so far as to say bring back Schotty. (ugh) Well lets give some of you some facts. In 2007 Sparano was promoted to assistant head coach of the Cowboys. He also assumed some of the play calling duties for the Cowboys that season. A season that saw them go 13-3 and rank second in offense. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/dal/2007.htm In 2008 he and Dan Henning had the innovative idea to bring back the wildcat. While it's success was not long term, it did bring success to the Dolphins in 2008. Rejuvenating Chad Pennington and consistently limiting his weaknesses and maximizing his strengths. As you remember they went 11-5. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/mia/2008.htm Now since then the team has gone downhill. However In a 2011 season when everyone knew he was a lame duck, and a season that quickly tanked, his players continued to play for him hard, and saw 4-8 record with a close loss to the Cowboys that would be his last as head coach of the Dolphins. In this season he saw Matt Moore become a respectable starting QB. So while some of you may be down on the move, hours before his hiring was announced this story was posted on ESPN http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/cowboys/post/_/id/4689433/tony-sparano-should-be-top-priority-for-cowboys So despite protests from some Jets fans, others appeared to be high on Sparano's ability to help an offense. BroadwayJ667
Well that would make the offense more effective, if you want a pounding run game then you need a vertical passing game to make it work. Integrity28
I like the hiring. He's a no-nonsense old school disciplinarian coach. He's great with the running game, and I fully expect he'll have someone on his staff that is a passing game specialist (Todd Haley, perhaps)? Best thing about this hiring is that all the jerk-offs on this team seem to be on the offensive side of the ball, with the exception of Cromartie and Scott. It should get the offense to start approaching the game like NFL football and not slap-dick NBA primadonna bullsh*t.
afosomf
Why would Haley come to Jets as a WR coach LOL, he is going to a team to become an OC, not a WR passing coordinator 4 Years of Hell Comin

bitonti
Sweet, field goal, wildcat and fist pumps. Championship coaches coach players play i never got that mad at Schotty and I don't expect sparano to save the world this league is all about the quarterback, period. if it was about the coordinator they'd pay these guys 10 mil and Sanchez would make 10x less. i do think the match between Sparano and Rex is a better mix than Schotty and Rex

JustInFudge
I at least expect the passing game to nbe more vertical. Too funny. I just posted this in another thread. Obviously this is a commitment to ground and pound which I'm fine with but you need to compliment it with a vertical passing game. Its Parcells brand Football. Sean Peyton too. For as much as people think NO runs this complicated 5 wide type system, they dont. They compliment a power running game with a vertical passing attack that is usually out 2 WR or 3 WR sets. Its actually quite vanilla.

And that last line is what I'm hoping for as well. Ground and pound doesnt work with Schotty's dink and dunk offense. Its makes it way too easy on a defense. Especially with a Qb like Mark Sanchez. SenorGato
Lost me at the Wildcat...Jets used it in '06 alot...They used Pennington at QB and won ten games...much hullsh*tting was done. The dolphins basically copied the '06 Jets offense in '08 after striking out at hiring the Jets' OC at least once. They just happened to run it with two at the time top tier (ish), very versatile RBs rather than two sharp rookies who kind of just found themselves in the role to win games. IMO expect 60 40 run pass and maybe it nets you 9 or 10 wins, This team will not win a SB with sanchez unless a miracle occurs and he all of a sudden can read a defense and improve his accuracy 100% BTW i hope schott ends up in Bama, it will be a great hire, Spoke too to many insiders and know the problem is the QB. Jetsfan80
that would be one of the saints 11 players that can execute a play That would also be the best or 2nd best QB in football. Sanchez is somewhere around 27th. So yeah, that's a difference.
