From SI:

Biography: Three-year starter awarded all-conference honors as a senior after totals of 59 tackles/6 interceptions/5 pass breakups. Junior numbers included 33 tackles and four passes defended.

Positives: Opportunistic defensive back with a nice feel for coverage. Picks up assignments, displays the ability to get outside the numbers and effectively tracks the ball in the air. Displays good speed in every direction, shows a nice move to the ball and keeps the action in front of him. Effectively reads the quarterback?s eyes, displays solid instincts and shows skill when placed over the slot receiver. Possesses good hands, chases the action hard and works to defend the run.

Negatives: Needs to improve his backpedal. Overpursues the action on occasion. Possesses average size/speed numbers.

Analysis: Bush is an underrated safety who consistently comes up with a big play during a game?s important moments. He's a tough defender with the ability to be used in several defensive systems at the next level and could be an asset as a dime back/special teams player.

Projection: 6th

Wake Forest defensive back Josh Bush wasn't invited to any of the postseason all-star games or the combine workouts, but the league-wide trend toward finding guys who can play safety, but possess some cornerback-level cover skills, has helped him a lot in evaluations. Bush likely will be drafted in the middle to late rounds as a free safety, but his sub-4.5 speed, some history at corner in college, and potential for being able to play in the slot and on special teams probably will earn him a paycheck somewhere in the league. - Len Pasquarelli, The Sports Xchange

I don't know anything about the guy except he is 5'11". How can he possibly help with covering the the Patriots' tight ends? Which, you would think, would be the #1 priority for a Jets safety.

So you think they should have drafted the tallest possible safety? Ball skills should be a consideration, which this guy seems to have.

Not the tallest, just don't waste a pick on someone who is too small to possibly cover 6'5", 6'6" tight ends. I don't care what his ball skills are, Brady will be throwing over his head into the loving arms of his duo. Build a team that can beat your primary division opponent. if there was not a safety at least 6'2" with skills they liked, they should have went another route (like OT).

no one can cover the Patriots TE's and since they added Brandon lloyd its only going to get tougher. We will have to apply pressure on Brady if we dont he will eat us up just like he eats everyone else up who do not get his a$$ out of the pocket. This is why I think the Jets will be using many more "big" 4 man fronts than in the past and hopefully keep Brady from stepping up and that will be the Key. Gronk just put up the greatest season ever by a TE and hes only in his second year. If you dont get to Brady you dont win its as simple as that.

Sub 4.5 speed with some CB work on his resume. Jets continue to get faster. Decent addition to a secondary in need.

special teams guy with a chance to make the team.

Westy must be pissing himself. Davis, Bush, and Hill will bring much needed speed to the ST's unit.

Davis was drafted to help cover TEs, this guy is more of a centerfielder in the nickel and dime packages.

Too short to cover 6'6" TEs....sooooo all safeties?

The guy who will take out TEs is going to be a LB in pretty much every defense. Safeties, generally speaking, don't have the size to do anything but play support.

Exactly, the Davis pick was more of a selection to address covering the (Pats) TEs.

This.

People clamoring for us to replace Ducasse and Hunter in rounds 6 & 7 sound absurd. As well as those that expect the special teasers we take this late to find the anti-Gronk

Sorry but this was a crap pick with Markelle Martin still on the board. Martin is a locker-room leader ranked in the top 4 safeties by several sources, and he's 6'1". He made sense here. He can also lay the wood and is solid in coverage. I think Tanny just whiffed.

Wow everyone is still whiffing...
