Apple of their eye

By Scott Wolf, Staff Writer

NEW YORK - USC tailback Reggie Bush loves Manhattan, especially partying at the exclusive nightclub Marquee, where he spent Friday and Saturday nights for the second straight year.

But the city also embraced Bush with open arms, especially New York Jets fans, which impressed the Heisman Trophy winner as he considers turning pro after the No. 1-ranked Trojans play No. 2 Texas in the Rose Bowl.

Bush frequently heard chants of "Reggie, Reggie" in the city this weekend as Jets fans made their pitch in this sports-driven city.

"Wherever I went, everyone said they wanted me to play in New York," Bush said. "I could definitely see myself here. New York's a great city. I like the East Coast atmosphere.

"I could see myself being a Jet. I've been getting some good vibes. It would be a great opportunity for me."

That's a real possibility, because the lowly Jets (3-10) should end up with a high draft pick. But would the Jets select Bush or USC's other Heisman winner, quarterback Matt Leinart?

"If I were starting an offense, I'd take the quarterback," Jets coach Herman Edwards told Newsday. "You've got to take the triggerman."

In the meantime, Bush savored every moment of his Heisman victory. After a late, late Saturday night, he visited the set of the NFL pregame show on CBS on Sunday morning and also did an interview with ABC for its bowl coverage.

With last weeks win the Jets took themselves out of the running for Reggie and I bet they win again this Sunday just to lock up the 4th pick or worse

It gets worse.

If they win 2 more, they may drop out of the top 5, thereby making the likelihood of trading down for 2 1st round picks very small.......

Barton,

MBN and AFJF basically covered it all. Getting Bush has always been an 'iffy' proposition because of a number of things, such as just how bad the Texans are (now combined with a throwing games effort) and the fact that if/when the Jets decided to play, winning one or 2 games weren't out of the question. Like you and others have mentioned EB, passing up Bush regardless of position need would be suicidal.I've long felt that the Jets, minus an effort to throw games, would manage to win a few and take themselves out of it. As MBN mentioned, it may take an effort to trade up if the Jets really want him, which honestly, I think they don't.

Hermie trying to put up a smoke screen to make it look like we don't want Bush. Hermie you have to take the best player when you draft that high.

does anyone honestly believe that Reggie bush is the difference between winning a super bowl next year and not winning it?

I personally don't. Bush could be a great player in this league but there are alot of great players throughout the years that were offensive dynamos and never won the big game.

=D>=D>=D>=D>

The Jets problems go WAY beyond what Bush could provide.

Getting Bush doesn't offset Hermies coaching. Hermie may not even let Bush play if we got him. He hates playing rooks unless a guy like Henderson makes him.

You really believe the conspiracy BS? Come on...

Passing up Bush is not as much a big a deal as you all think. Very good player, no question.. but not a sure lock (noone is).

Exactly.

And counting on the Jets to win another game isnt a good bet. If we lose out, and San Fran can beat either the Rams or Texans, then we get the 2nd pick in the draft!

If we end up with the 5th/6th pick, there's always a possibily we can trade up to get Bush if the Jets want him.

Which wouldnt surprise me because Bradway will want to make a splash after a horrible losing season.
