hahhahaha

A pair of local TV news anchors had a surprise for viewers at the end of their 6 p.m. newscast on Tuesday: They're quitting.
Cindy Michaels and Tony Consiglio, anchors for ABC's WVII affiliate in Bangor, Maine, announced their joint resignations, citing a dispute with management over journalistic practices.
"And finally tonight, this will be Tony and my final show together right here on ABC 7," Michaels told viewers. "The last six years have been an interesting and enjoyable time for us as we have been the longest-running news team in Bangor."
"On behalf of Cindy and me, we have loved every moment bringing the news to you," Consiglio said. "Some recent developments have come to our attention, though, and departing together is the best alternative."
The duo did not elaborate for viewers, but they did for the local newspaper.
"There was a constant disrespecting and belittling of staff," Michaels told the Bangor Daily News. "We both felt there was a lack of knowledge from ownership and upper management in running a newsroom to the extent that I was not allowed to structure and direct them professionally. I couldn't do everything I wanted to as a news director. There was a regular undoing of decisions."
"It's a culmination of ongoing occurrences that took place the last several years and basically involved upper-management practices that we both strongly disagreed with," she continued. "It's a little complicated, but we were expected to do somewhat unbalanced news, politically, in general."
The station's management dismissed Michaels' claims.
"Upper management is not involved in the daily production of the news, period," Mike Palmer, WVII vice president and general manager, told the paper. "We've made great changes over the last few months and are not slowing down. Over the last 15 to 18 months, we've been a raging locomotive of change."

Suspected Shoplifter Dies After Confrontation With Walmart Employees

A man suspected of shoplifting two DVD players from a Lithonia, Ga., Walmart today died after an altercation with two store employees and a contract security guard, prompting a police investigation.

The man, whose identity has not been released, exited through the front door of the store at 1:30 a.m. today and was confronted in the parking lot, according to DeKalb County police.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the employees on top of the middle-aged man, according to a police report obtained by ABC News affiliateWSB-TV. When an officer bent down to handcuff the suspect, he noticed there was no resistance.

At that point, the officer noticed the suspect was bleeding from the nose and mouth, according to the report. He was transported to DeKalb Medical-Hillandale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“This is truly a sad situation. We don’t know all of the facts right now. We’re in the process of working with law enforcement to determine all of the facts and cooperating and providing any information we have to assist in the investigation,” Dianna Gee, Walmart spokesperson, said in a statement issued to ABC News.

Gee said the contract security guard will no longer be providing services to the retailer. The two store employees have been suspended with pay while Walmart assists police in the investigation

“Our associates are trained that the safety of our customers and our associates is our first priority,” Gee said. “No amount of merchandise is worth someone’s life. Associates are trained to disengage from situations that would put themselves or others at risk. That being said, this is still an active investigation and we’re working with police to provide any assistance.

That we know of.

But the city has been getting safer for a long time.

In the eighties and nineties, there were 2,000 or so homicides a year. The tabloids usually had a pick of five or six murder victims to put on the front page every day.

cademy Award winning actress Reese Witherspoon was arrested and jailed along with husband Jim Toth Friday morning in Atlanta, Georgia, when a police officer observed Toth weaving outside of his lane in traffic. Toth was arrested for DUI, while Witherspoon was handcuffed and arrested for alleged disorderly conduct when she refused to cooperate with law enforcement.

Variety broke the story on Sunday. Toth, 42, the co-head of motion picture talent at Creative Artists Agency (CAA), is facing a DUI charge and a second charge for failing to maintain a lane while driving, and is due in court in Atlanta on Monday at 8 a.m., but is not expected to appear. The couple was in Atlanta because Witherspoon, 37, has been shooting the indie film, "The Good Lie." Sources tell Variety that production on the film was not interrupted. Witherspoon's rep is not issuing comment.

Toth was pulled over just after midnight Friday morning while driving a silver 2013 Ford Focus after the arresting officer saw him weaving across a double line on the city's famous Peachtree Street, according to a police report obtained by Variety. The officer administered a sobriety test on the scene, and later a breathalyzer, for which he blew a .139.

According to the report, Witherspoon became upset while still in the vehicle and the officer requested that she stay in the car for her own safety.

“Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer,” the police report read, per Variety. “I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet.”

When Toth was arrested, Witherspoon exited the vehicle and then was told by the officer to get back in it. She "stated that she was a 'U.S. citizen' and that she was allowed to ‘stand on American ground.’”

The report detailed that Witherspoon resisted arrest as the officer grabbed her arms to handcuff and arrest her, while Toth tried to calm her down.

The report continued, “Mrs. Witherspoon asked, “Do you know my name?” I answered, “No, I don’t need to know your name.” I then added, “right now.” Mrs. Witherspoon stated, “You’re about to find out who I am … Mrs. Witherspoon also stated, ‘You are going to be on national news.’ I advised Mrs. Witherspoon that was fine.”

The "Legally Blonde" star's alleged violation was "disorderly conduct (obstruction)," which is reportedly a local municipal ordinance.

Witherspoon and Toth have been married since March 2011 and have one son, Tennessee James Toth, together, born in September 2012. The actress has two children -- Ava, 13, and Deacon, 9 -- with her first husband, Ryan Phillippe.

But it was business as usual for Witherspoon Sunday night in New York City, where she still attended the premiere of her film "Mud," co-starring Matthew McConaughey. "omg! Insider" was on the red carpet and asked her co-stars about the incident. McConaughey refused to comment and the news caught Sarah Paulson and director Jeff Nichols by surprise. Witherspoon arrived at the premiere alone and took photos but did not speak to reporters.

i tend to forget that Andromeda is on pace to hit our galaxy by the year 3,000 ish

I just came across this, and I found it alarming.  Only 1,000 more years to figure a way to move the civilization to a new home.

Then I found out you were a little off.

It won't happen for four billion years.

You actually had me worried there. :)

TROUTDALE, OR (KPTV) -

A Troutdale woman is accused of having sex with her daughter's 15-year-old friend.

Investigators say they learned about the alleged crimes after a Sam Barlow High School resource officer from the Gresham Police Department got a report from the Department of Human Services about what was going on.It's believed Maydew and the teenage boy would meet up on several occasions all across town to have sex, according to investigators.

The officer first confronted the teen, who didn't want to discuss it, so the officer contacted the boy's mother.

Police say, following that conversation, the teen admitted to having sex with Maydew in her car in various locations, including a secluded area and at his home.

Maydew was booked into jail Wednesday but later released.

By the way, did anyone even like this movie?

*Raises hand sheepishly*

I get it, most people didn't like that the alien was her Dad (spoiler alert, derp!), but I dug the concept.  It was originally a Carl Sagan book (which I also read) that got more than slightly bastardized on film, but....yeah, I still kind of liked it.
