Is This The Next Jets Left Guard

No Adrien Clarke is most likely not coming back to the Jets to play left guard like he did during the 2007 season but it looks like history might repeat itself.

The Jets acquired guard Pete Kendall before the 2004 season.  Kendall agreed to a pay reduction for the 2006 year with the understanding that he would get the money returned during the 2007 season if he played well in ’06 but the Jets refused to renegotiate Kendall’s salary.

With the Jets refusing to increase his salary the relationship with the team began to decline.  The Jets decided that it would be a good idea to put Kendall, a veteran, in with the rookies during training camp.  Kendall was eventually traded away to the Washington Redskins before the 2007 season started.

So instead of keeping their promise, then head coach Eric Mangini, a Bill Belichick disciple, thought it would be a good idea to get rid of the veteran Kendall and replace him with Adrien Clarke because, like Belichick thinks, you can replace a player with anyone.

Clarke had started 4 games with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2005 and ended up having a terrible season in 2007 eventually being benched.  The next offseason the Jets signed free agent guard Alan Faneca to at huge contract to make up for their mistake starting Clarke.

Well the Jets are on the verge of repeating a past mistake.  They are obviously grooming offensive lineman Vladimir Ducasse to be their starting left guard next season.  The Jets have been rotating Ducasse in for starter Matt Slauson about 10 plays per game.

Ducasse has been a major disappointment since being drafted 61st in 2010 but going into next season both Jets guards are heading towards free agency.  With the team having tight finances they are looking to fill potential holes from within but watching Ducasse often block air instead of the opponent isn’t instilling confidence that he’s not Clarke part II, penny wise pound foolish.

Seems like Mike Tannenbaum is determined to allow Ducasse, who went to Tannenbaum’s alma matter (UMass), every opportunity to make it but don’t know if Jets fans can watch Vlad chase after the guy he was supposed to block while he crushes our quarterback, just like with Clarke in 2007.

The guy has been playing more and more and none of you guys noticed. If Sanchez gets killed it will more than likely be his own damn fault. The Jets tried to force Kendall to take less money and didn't have a backup plan. They didn't decide Clarke could play. If fact during the preseason they tried benching him and using Bender - a super raw tackle prospect. Then Bender gave up a Winston Justice like number of sacks in his first series. I remember all the brains on the board telling me that you could plug anybody in at G and it wouldn't matter and saving the money was some great score for the team and that Kendall, like Mawae before him was nothing but a rabble rousing union leader. In this case, they seem to be handling it fairly intelligently. They are auditioning Vlad. Then during the offseason they can properly evaluate how he played vs. the draft, what Slauson will get on the open market and other FA prospects.

The oline might be the best part of the O but they still can't block worth a sh*t so there is an apparent reason to complain.

they can dominate weaker teams like Indy. the problem is when they play playoff caliber teams and those teams stack the box and demand that Sanchez beat them with his arm. none of this has anything to do with the OL.

and by the way Clarke was a 7th rounder who was lucky to be drafted, Vlad is a 2nd rounder who was a definite top 100 pick the difference between these prospects is huge. Basically they have nothing in common. Besides this thread.

Technically, Indy is a playoff team. 1 of 5 AFC teams with a winning record. lol

compared to Adrien Clarke, he's friggin John Hannah.'

as usual, the OL is the best part of the Jets offense. and people complain about it, for no apparent reason.

Bit over all our O-Line the past 2 years is what you would consider average at best. However the depth has been nothing short of horrible and Vlad Ducasse is part of that depth. When he comes in he still looks lost and thats not good at this stage of his development for him or the team.

i wouldnt mind drafting a couple of olinemen not necassarilly for depth but just to replace our aging line.

Heck Oline is so important that unless you get really lucky with an unkown player and someone gets hurt on the oline the season is screwed. An extreme case of this being the eagles

sometimes, we the fans suffer from a lack of perspective. the word is that the Jets OL stinks or "average at best" here's my case as to why that's wrong:

they are well above average, by most measurements. Mark Sanchez is in the top 3rd of protected QBs based on sack stats and QB hit stats. They get good push on short yardage (as most point out in the "why did they pass the ball on 3rd and short" type threads). Nick Mangold is the best center in the league. DBrick is a Pro Bowl regular. Moore is a Pro Bowler. Even vlad, who people say stink, is responsible for some huge holes in the run game. Austin Howard has been pretty darn good as a replacement for Wayne Hunter.

My question is If the Jets are below average in OL, who do you think is better? The Pats starting Donald Thomas and Dan Connolly instead of Mankins and Waters? The Packers who actually have the most sacked starting QB in the league in Aaron Rodgers? Rotoworld said the Packers had the best line in football in preseason. The media on OL is an absolute sh*t show. even PFF which usually does a good job, has no idea how to grade OL. if you don't know the play or the assignment, how can you grade the OL?

full disclosure this year, I took a job writing as an OL expert for a fantasy football site. I have been watching all the lines, not just the Jets lines, and following them closely. I am comfortable in my rankings. I feel like I know these lines better than I ever had, not just the Jets but all of em. And long story short if you think the Jets line stinks, look around the league.

I have the 49ers as the best line in the league. They are my #1. But I have the Jets along with the Ravens, Texans, Giants, Bucs, Titans, Dolphins and Saints as the top lines in the league. The Jets are easily in the top 10 just by having Nick Mangold on the field.

Yes compared to the faneca, woody lines they are about average. but compared to the 32 teams in 2012 they are very good if not excellent. and if you want to see bad lines, look at the Rams, Colts, Chargers, Redskins, jaguars, Cards, Eagles, Steelers etc. compared to these teams the Jets ol is friggin awesome.

I said they were average. I said the depth sucks.
