I know the professor is a boxer, but I don't know the weight class. I'm not afraid to get my ass kicked, that's happened plenty of times. Rutgers seems to have some form of code of honor, so I think the worst I would receive is an old school beating. Mick on the other hand seems more likely to gouge out an eyeball or bite off my nose in addition to kicking my ass. Duane seems like a friendly guy, but isn't he a big biker dude? Also might be big trouble in addition to Crusher and the usual suspects. Nobody is afraid of AAA baseball players? They are professional athletes.

You're just saying that. 6'5" to 6'6" is the difference between tall guy and freak.

178 and 189. As much as I'd like to fight at the former again, that level of shredding weight has become harder and harder as I've gotten older as I normally walk around between 195 and 205 and my body's threshold is around 185, after that I pretty much have to starve myself and it's awful. I haven't actually fought in a few years even though I've always been in the gym, it's hard to compete when I'm engrained in so much schooling. The gym I lift at has a MMA gym as well, so I've become a guy who helps those guys with striking because boxing is one area where MMA fighters really tend to shortchange their training and it can badly backfire if you're not ready for it (ie GSP vs Koscheck). It's enjoyable and keeps me on my toes and in shape. Even if I don't have the time to compete I still get the urge to scrap a handful of times a month.

All this said, I haven't been in a street fight in eons. I've walked away from countless situations in that time and always will unless I'm put in a position where there's no other choice. I've seen what a technically sound and accurately thrown punch can do to someone and it's terrifying.

Unless it's Shane of course. Because screw that guy.

I have no doubt that JiF would be a pathetic, suburban frat-boy biatch who would drop from the first open-hand pimp-slap across the cheek that would knock off his pre-aged Abercrombie and Fitch sun visor.

Pretty sure Jaded Green is the Gilgo Beach murderer.

GOB would go all kinds of Bad Lieutenanf on you.

Probably the last person I'd fight would be RJF. Not only does he box, but you'd also have to pause between rounds to look up his trash-talk in the OED.

Prepare for a fistful of knuckles and tutelary democratization bitch.

fighting. is that a thing people do these days? this is America, thought everyone just shot each other.

In the 'hood they shoot each other. In the suburbs they have their parents file police reports and badger the detective to get the other person charged with a crime 3 levels higher than the actual crime alleged.

Ah. Then we fight at super middle weight!!

My grandfather was a boxer. Lightweight, fought at the (old) Garden twice. He taught us and I messed around with it a little, but I was pretty much all done by 16 and I think I was still making welterweight back then. I probably walk around at 178. My eyes blow up pretty fast, so you would have some easy target practice.

What is a street fight? I haven't had one since high school, but playing football you get into plenty of brawls on the field and if you keep playing into your mid-forties you will find yourself rolling around in the grass with 20 years olds. As a 5'9" defensive specialist, I find the posturing during basketball games more threatening than the actual football melees.

Every time I watch an MMA fight and I see a guy coming in and he gets caught with a seemingly short shot on the jaw and he drops like a ton of bricks. Watch it over and over again and the punch looks like nothing yet this professional fighter who is conditioned to be hit drops out. A good placed shot is a thing of beauty.

Sounds like a good day to fight you since you will be so sore. Just saying.

After working with a lot of these guys for a while I can totally see why they're like that too. The mixed martial artist is training at upwards of 5-6 different styles of fighting per fight. At the beginner and intermediate level this only gets compounded since everyone is coming in with their own backgrounds and trainers are forced to adapt to what they believe will be the most universal program for everybody. Learning a perfect jab takes a long time. A proper left hook can take years to learn depending on the person. and the more advanced stuff, (hooking off your jab, slipping in the pocket), these guys are simply too bogged down with other styles to have the time to learn it. Defense too. Where you have to hold your hands and how you slip differ. So if you add all of that up, it means a boxer can really do some damage in a MMA ring, (Rashad used to murder guys on his footwork alone in his prime).

That said, the same holds for boxers. You can throw your jab all you want, but if you get taken to the ground, you best know how to grapple.
