Why not trade for Alex Smith in the off season?

Yeah, his 18 TDs in 9 games all clearly came on checkdowns.....

You should take your act to a Niner's board for awhile. You can school them on how they had the 3rd best QB in football and that their coach is clueless. I'm sure they'll love the made up Harbaugh quotes on game day.

The Niners waiting until next year. What was the problem with doing that?

If you didn't think Smith could get you over, with all the new talent added, then Harbaugh screwed up in the preseason to begin with, choosing the wrong QB, and then signing him to a big deal.

It's like he just met Kaepernick two weeks ago!

How do you figure he screwed up resigning him? He drafted a high ceiling guy who ran the pistol offense in college. He needed time to work with him and it obviously payed off. Alex Smith is cuttable after this year without guaranteeing his 2013 salary and even if they start Kaepernick the rest of the way they have 2 QB's who can step in at any time for less then Sanchez who's worthless makes himself.

Smith's contract wasn't big. It was basically a one year contract until Kaepernick got some seasoning. They can(will) cut him in the offseason and only pay him $1m.
