If true, his career should be over.
Not necessarily. Even nonsports journalists have been caught plagiarizing and even making up fiction and after a brief career interruption go right back to well-paid jobs in journalism.
Mike Barnicle of the Boston Globe lifter stuff from George Carlin's book and now he's a regular guest on Joe Scarborough's show. And by no means is he the only one I can recall-and I'm not even in journalism.

Cimini will probably get fired from ESPN if he did it-but he'll probably pop right back up again somewhere else in a year or two.
Personally, I think a journalist who plagiarizes, makes stuff up or does something like what Cimini seems to have done should be read out of the profession and be made to go into a different line of work entirely. But that doesn't seem to happen, unfortunately.
