Mark Sanchez: The Final Countdown

Regarding the bold, that's not exactly true.  Sanchez's downward spiral began during the 2011 season and simply continued on ever since then.  It's the reason why the subsequent offseason was filled with constant chatter about the Jets need to bring in competition for Sanchez, as well as how they should start looking for options in the draft again (do we not remember the extensive reports regarding Bradway flipping a sh*t in the draft room about the Jets needing to draft Wilson?).  The Jets actually even made a move at the position, but it just so happened their stupid asses managed to dig up the one guy in the league who had already proven beyond doubt to be an even sh*ttier passer than Sanchez, so it did anything but help.  None of these are signs of a guy who was supposedly constantly improving.

So basically all that leaves us with is that Sanchez improved once, from his rookie year to his second year, and has been as bad or worse than that ever since then.

In 2011 the offensive line was horrible -- wayne hunter nearly got Sanchez killed that season and they still make the playoffs if the defense doesn't allow tebow to drive 98 yards in the final 3 minutes in Denver.  His receivers are a slow Burress and Holmes.  Burress was a plus in the red zone but not much else outside of that because he lacked a burst and couldn't get separation, they had traded away cotchery, cut mason, and went with Kerley as a rookie.  They didn't do a lot to help him in 2011 and he still but up some solid TD numbers.    Not having a backup was still a problem but in 2012 When McElroy came in he was sacked 10 times and nearly killed.  just shows you want Sanchez had been working with all season.

That's the rub.  They'll accuse you of not making valid points while they themselves aren't offering alternatives.

There have been numerous names listed.  They've been ignored.

Jason Campbell and Chad Henne are both better QBs than Mark Sanchez.

Chad Henne has never thrown more TD than Int...Jason Campbell 4 years ago maybe but a 33 year old QB that looks well past he best years is just another old veteran that won't see the field. I would not get to up on either of those guys doing anything to push Smith.

You seriously are bringing up the Denver game as an argument in favor of Sanchez?  You cannot possibly be serious.  The Sanchez-led Jets offense scored 13 points that day.  Yes, THIRTEEN.  Sanchez also did what he does best by throwing a pick 6, which was literally the only reason the Bronco's were even in the game to begin with.  His stupid ass doesn't get to point fingers in any other direction, considering no matter how pathetic that one defensive drive was, he was still the #1 reason they lost.  To say otherwise is essentially arguing that, when Sanchez is a team's QB, the defense should be responsible for holding the opposing offense to 6 points or less in order to win.  Think about that one for a minute.

Sanchez would push Smith...he beat him out last year and Smith knows he would have to come into camp and beat him soundly to silence critics that say he didn't earn the job. JC and CH would do nothing to push Smith and are not better than Sanchez. Michal Vick would push Smith - but Vick isn't coming here, Jay Cutler would replace Smith - but he isn't coming here.  Matt Schaub would make a lot of headlines and some fans would say he should start but he really seems done after this season.

Henne's TD to INT ratio has always been about even.  Sanchez has many more turnovers than him too.  Henne has a better average, better completion %, and better passer rating.

As for Campbell, you're looking for 1-year, not a career.  Mark Sanchez's best years are behind him to.  That was USC.

The fact that you can't easily say Sanchez is better than these guys speaks volumes about the player Sanchez is.  Can't wait until he's gone.

There are other options out there that are far better. Again....what is he going to teach Geno? He'll be nothing but a distraction here. Idzik spent his first year here cutting ties with members of the old guard, and the only reason he couldn't cut Sanchez (and Holmes) was due to finances. Now he can finally do so and we'll have a fresh slate roster.

I remember when the only reason Idzik kept Rex was because the owner told him to, and that at his first opportunity, he was going to replace him.

I don't expect Sanchez back, but that isn't the best argument against the possibility.

Weird. Because in essence, he and Geno, aside from Geno's scramble ability, are almost the exact same QB as far as pocket presence, accuracy, and decision making.

All I am saying is the defense had it's share of sh*t show moments in 2011 and 2012.  After the Denver game he went on a 3 game winning streak throwing 7TD, running for 2TD, and throwing 1 INT.  Defense closes out that game and the season ends in a playoff game.

And, I could tolerate Sanchez's mistakes in year one.  Not in year three, four, or five.

I'm happy to get rid of Geno when it's clear he is not going to improve.  We haven't reached that point yet.

If the offense doesn't throw a pick six that drive is in garbage time.

This is weird, considering Geno's 2013 DVOA and DYAR are better than Sanchez's 2009 and 2012. Ditto YPA, total TDs scored, 4th quarter comebacks, game-winning drives.

Sanchez was injured in year 5, and in year 4 they brought in Sporano to destroy the offense.  Along with a who's who of receiving talent.

In year 3 he put up 32 TDs...made mistakes yes -- but did lead on of the top TD producing red zone offenses in football...showed that with weapons he had a nice upside.  They dropped the ball in 2012.

probably right next to the article of the Jets horrific skill players over the past 5 years.

Look out, this other guy is saying Geno's weapons were league average.  But, this other guy makes Pac look like Mensa.  So, there's that.

How come every time you talk about Sanchez's banner year, you neglect to mention that he still led the league in turnovers, instead dismissing it as "he made mistakes."

Sanchez has a good stats -- well look who it was against.  Anyone else does the same -- this guy is amazing!

When you sample 3 games, instead of looking at a body of work, then yes, "who was it against" comes into play.

No one else is making the opposite argument you are pointing out.

No one ever said the defense was anywhere close to perfect in either of those seasons.  That does nothing to change Sanchez being awful though. The point is that in your example of the defense's failure, it was still a game in which Sanchez was even worse and ultimately the primary reason the Jets lost, single-handedly spotting the opposing team 7 points in a 4 point game (while only leading his own team to 13).  Trust me, if the season Geno just had was his 4th year in the league we'd all be calling for his head, but it's not, so many are willing to see if he has what it takes to turn it around.  Sanchez has already had way more than his fair share of chances to do that, and repeatedly shown an inability to do so.

Also worth noting, that 3 game stretch you referred to in attempt to compliment Sanchez was followed by a 3-game losing streak in which he turned the ball over 9 times and the offense consistently scored under 20 points.  Think that might have had a little more to do with their playoff failures than the defense allowing 10 points in a game 7 weeks before the season ended?

2011

16 308 543 56.7 3,474 6.40 26 74 18 4 36.0 78.2

Sanchez actually played well up until week 10 in 2011 21 TD's 11 ints when it was said he injured his shoulder. Not making excuses that was what was reported.

In each of the three years he was here up to that point he did Improve. Not tremendous improvement but he did improve. If the Jets would have handled the skill positions better on offense and not let a once great Oline go in the toilet I think it was very possible Sanchez would have continued to Improve.

In 2012 the Jets did not resign LT (46 Catches) both TE's got hurt (65 Catches)  and the receiving corp was a total joke Holmes season ended early, Hill was always hurt Kerley was the only option other than Jason Hill, Chaz Schilens, and Clyde MF Gates. Sorry but that's laughable.

Lets say in year 4 Sanchez had a Forte Marshall Jeffery and Bennett to throw too. You think he would have been forcing the ball and producing turnovers like he did in 2011 ? Probably not. But I know ...why should Jets fans expect us to build an offense by actually adding quality players when we can add 35 year old veteran bandaids and malcontents to mentor our juggernaut young players like Clyde Gates and Jason Hill and Jordon White ? Sure our salary cap situation was sh*t but ya can't blame that on Sanchez

Oh stop it..  no one is buying that he's "all over the place".  In the scenario presented those would be the people replacing Sanchez who in turn would be pressing Geno.

Only weak minded people are buying your BS..  as only weak minded people believe Jason Campbell and Chad friggin Henne are better than Sanchez.  Has either one ever even appeared in a playoff game?

For a moment, just in an attempt to try to be as objective as possible, I was going to point out that he never really had an opportunity to make mistakes in year five.  Then I stopped and remembered the hysterical fit of laughter that accompanied Sanchez's very first drive of the preseason culminating in a pick 6 (by, of course, a DL no less).

Then you saw him wax the D in his 2nd drive culminating in a TD.  But lets leave that part out because it doesn't fit the narrative.

Cool. What does any of this have to do with his poor completion percentage, turnover prowess, and midnumbing mistakes?

Oh. And game winning 4th quarter comebacks against Tampa Bay, Atlanta, and Buffalo are not all that impressive.
