So you want to extend the Sanchez misery out longer????

The fact is, unless the Jets want to mortgage more deeply (and blindly) in the future, next years squad will have less talent on it than this year's. Just no other way around it.

Its one way to free up money. It does not mean he is anything more than number 2 on the depth chart. It will be kinda hard to have worse players than Bryan Thomas, Bart Scott, Calvin Pace, ect, starting on next years squad.

If you do that, it means that you owe him MORE in the future and make it more difficult to cut him. He is not going to sign cheap extension with the Jets-It is not in his interest. Extending Sanchez is not a viable business decision.

It is very easy to project wins if situations were different. That is a loser's game.

Fact is, Sanchez WAS the QB, Ryan WAS the coach that WANTED him at qb, and Ryan WAS the coach that continued to play him despite his failings.

You continue to discount that Ryan plays a big part in the Sanchez debacle. It is on him as much as Tanny.

You keep saying that but I've said a millions times, even before this season, that Rex Ryan's loyalty to Mark Sanchez will be the death of him. Just because for a month during the offseason I was tongue in cheek saying he'd make the probowl doesnt mean I havent realized he always sucked major donkey dick and Rex Ryan is responsible for rolling him out week after week.

Still doesnt mean I think Rex is a bad coach. He never had any options and still won despite him. If that was on him or Tanny, we'll never know. Right now, the fingers are getting pointed at the GM. Unfortunately for you, its looks like we get another year to see if that was the difference.

It has been done before in the past. You need to free up money now and cutting him and trading him are not options.

Death by bleeding for an NFL franchise is extending contracts of players who you do not expect to be on the roster.

Very stupid move

Rex should have been whacked too. As long as he has a neanderthal approach to offense, the Jets are going nowhere regardless of the QB. Add that his defense is nowhere near as good as it was 3 years ago, and we are hosed for awhile. Next year will be ugly. Trade whoever they can for picks for 2014 and beyond. Rex will see them through the terrible season next year and the new GM will fire him and bring his own coach in.

Who said he would not be on the roster? He can be the back up. Russell Wilson is making less than Matt Flynn is. It happens all the time.

On the roster in the future. Why would you extend a back-up qb who is going to ask for starter money?

Sanchez is not going to give a discount to the Jets to be a back-up. he wants to move on somewhere else.

I promise you, one move the Jets WILL NOT be doing this off season will be giving Sanchez an extension. The stadium would be burnt down

Another name of interest in the list of GM candidates is Tom Heckert.

Jets reflect on Mike Tannenbaum's tenure with team, as focus shifts toward future

By Connor Orr

An emotional Mike Tannenbaum addressed the Jets today one final time after he was fired as general manager, reading a prepared speech directed at the team's players and coaches in attendance at Florham Park.
The tenor of Tannenbaum's statement focused self assessment and self improvement. He posed the team's players a simple question: If the Jets consisted of 22 you's, how good would that team be?
After a disappointing 6-10 season, the Jets began to move forward today with the firing of Tannenbaum. Still, though, there was time for reflection in the locker room as the player packed their belongings.
"He took a chance on me to come here, he gave me my first chance in the NFL, and that's allowed me to have a life for my family," Mike DeVito, a Jets defensive lineman, said. "It's always tough -- it reminded me of when Eric (Mangini) left."
Although owner Woody Johnson announced that Rex Ryan would be back as the team's head coach next year, he gave no assurances to anyone else. It is believed offensive coordinator Tony Sparano will be relieved of his duties by day's end.
Each player in the Jets locker room had a relationship with Tannenbaum. He either helped negotiate their contract as the team's cap specialist or acquired them as general manager, a post he held from 2006 to today.
"He did great things for us these last couple years but I don't know, it's really sad -- you don't wanna see anybody getting fired," Darrelle Revis, the Jets cornerback, said. "He had a great speech that he wrote, guys clapped for him after and felt sad for him."
For a team reeling from it's worst season during Ryan's four-year tenure, it was difficult to finally see blame being saddled on one person for a second straight season without the playoffs.
"People had a lot of things going through their minds," Muhammad Wilkerson, the Jets defensive lineman, said. "It's part of the business, that's something I can't control. We just have to get better for next year."
D'Brickashaw Ferguson, the Jets' offensive tackle, said that the players would be naive to think that there wouldn't be change after something like this happened -- and that focus remains on the future.
"We had high hopes at the beginning of the year," Ferguson said. "And every year our goal is to make it to the Super Bowl and we missed that, we definitely missed that."

IF that happens you can almost bet Pat Schurmer also comes as OC/QB coach.

No GM is perfect. Every GM has a few mistakes. But end of the day you cannot make a super glaring mistake. That too in the biggest media market on this planet.

Tanny made two HUGE blunders.

1. Drafting Mark
2. Extending Mark.

And that really sealed his fate.

I only wish that they could have let Kellen Clemens call Tannenbaum into an office to fire him on camera.
Well, that's the internet, man: 9 billion tough guys who secretly want to touch your pee-pee.

This is how I feel, I hope I am wrong, but I have zero faith in Woody to do the right thing.

Again, I really hope I am wrong

Blind Squirrel?

I also think Mark Sanchez's performance and cap shape are so bad that there's no way to be successful next year, and while I don't think Woody is a good football mind, he's not a complete moron (despite what others will say and in the same way even the "bad coaches" still no a lot about football) and will have to realize that next year isn't the year.

What can I say, I'm a day 1 optimist though. I was a believer in Mark Sanchez... Until I saw him play.
