reading that quote, the Jets don't need a justin smith. they have Mo and Coples.

I donno man...the team sack leader was Coples with 5.5 followed by Wilkerson with 5....but I mean, is that really exceptable? We need players that will get after the QB. In the 3-4 if the LBs are supposed to do that then why didn't we have one LB who had more than 3 sacks? I respectfully disagree...we NEED a pass rusher!...Desperately!! This kid is ripping it up in practice at EW Shrine against top FBS all star talent just like he did all year in his league. If we don't have to spend a 1st or 2nd or 3rd round pick to get him then...well....why the hell not? We need a predator...thats what this kid is

ok so dude found some draft porn

enjoy

Princeton - Defensive linemen Mike Catapano was all over the place today. Catapano showed a relentless motor all afternoon. One play in particular he closed the gap on the quarterback who was trying to get around the corner then said "cmon baby hell yeah," after eliminating the edge. Catapano was excellent in pursuit, and something I jotted down several times in my notes.

Mike Catapano is definitely worth a look. Could be something here that develops into a starter!

I think we got 2 guys we can look at Saturday who can get after the QB...Catapano as well as David Bass. From the sound of things the West OL gonna have a hard time containing these 2 guys on Saturday. Bass sounds like he aint no joke either. Catapano is better at stopping the run though. Cant have too many guys who attack the QB. Thats an art form we are lacking

Isn't the East West Shrine Game the red-headed step child of senior games? This guy seems like a huge reach.

Alfred Morris played in it last year and broke the NFL Rookie rushing record this year....same agent and trainer as Catapano in fact. Morris was 2nd only to Peterson in rushing this season. Tom Brady played in EW Shine Game, Brett Favre did as well...and over 60 NFL Hall Of Fame Players have played in this game. 88 players who played in last year's game ended up on NFL Rosters this year. Plus its a Bowl Game with a great cause...helping disabled children from Shriners Hospital in Tampa. Its an annual game that is an 88 year old tradition. Its the 2nd rated College All Star Game next to the Senior Bowl...there are 4 All Star Bowl Games in total. http://www.tampabay....d=2091995350001

I heard Catapano and Michigan lineman William Campbell seem to be the most impressive looking D line guys down in St Petersburg. Also worth a look may be Running Back Ray Graham on the east team. Since we don't have anybody in charge I say as fans we should stay informed. Call me crazy for losing trust but well...

What's your view on signing Roy Williams?

Great talent but seems to be done no? I like the combo of Holmes, Braylon and Kerley. Why we ever let Braylon go I have no idea. Williams? eh....doesnt do much for me.....he's got the talent tho....but is the "want to" really still there maybe be the question?

what do you think?

Keith Elias + Latimer from the Program = Mike Catapano

by 'Pigskin' Paul Guillemette, editor of Paul's Pigskin Place and Special GBN Scout

http://www.gbnreport.com/shrinereport.html

"There’s a ton of coaching going on with the DL group and some of these guys are really responding in drill work. They too are a part of why the offenses are struggling so much. I have been mightily impressed by the attitudes and work ethic of two small school players #91/DAVID BASS/Missouri Western State & #77/MIKE CAPATANO/Princeton. CAPATANO is hustling his butt off and getting results from his effort. What has caught my eye with him is a reverse spin move to the inside on his pass-rush technique. That’s something you don’t see real often except in the most accomplished of pass rush specialists such as a DWIGHT FREENEY. CAPATANO has already made a believer out of me in two days with his size, strength, attitude and skills. This kid should get Drafted by Round 4 and has eventual starting potential"

Boston Globe and Bleacher Report reporting on Mike Catapano proving to scouts he has makings of NFL starter. Good value pick here guys....alot of talk about him and this kid David Bass. Small school guys who are schooling FBS guys in practice. The angle on Catapano being a local guy with childhood dream of playing for the Jets one day is intriguing. Not sold on this year's top round 1 type pass rushers....getting this kid in rounds 4 or 5 might not be such a bad idea. Boston Globe is reporting on him. lets get him before the Pats get him and use him against us. Also this Ray Graham guy sounds interesting

There's good in there. A&M does happen to own the two best offensive tackles in college football.

yeah but alot of time he just stops rushing. what's that about? JMO if Barkavious Mingo was named Joe Smith we wouldn't hear as much about him. Sam Montgomery has more career sacks, 20 pounds heavier and goes higher, again that's JMO. (btw how good does Eric Reid look in these clips? easy late 1st rounder)

Mingo looks more like a late 1/early 2 to me. nothing wrong with targeting him on the flippity flop. 9 is too high. Jarvis Jones has a trick back but at least he dominated.

By the way...I hate to say I told ya so but....

According to Russ Lande of the National Football Post: Out of the top 5 who raised their draft stock so far in the practice evaluations, out of the 100 or so players there Princeton's Mike Catapano is numero uno

1. Mike Catapano, DE, Princeton (6033, 270 and 4.85): "After dominating the Ivy League, Catapano came to Tampa needing to prove he could be as productive against better competition and he definitely did that. Quick off the ball, Catapano displayed strong and aggressive use of hands to jolt and defeat pass blocks with surprising ease. Able to consistently beat the offensive tackle around the corner and inside allowed him to regularly pressure the quarterback in every drill. Not only productive rushing the passer, his ability to defeat run blocks allowed him to make plays against the run at him and away. His strong week of practice has put Catapano in position to be a third round pick if he continues to perform well the rest of the spring."

So can we all take a look at him Sat at 4pm? If he gets a sack or two maybe we should consider convincing our team to give a hometown boy with a childhood dream a shot.

Hes a predator and we need one

If this guy is flying up draft boards like this, I think it becomes less and less likely that he'll be a Jet - especially if the Jets take a pass rusher in the first round. I could see them taking a second one later in the draft, but probably not as high as the third round. Too many other holes on the roster.

The other potential question with Catapano in particular is will he be able to make the transition to OLB? The Jets need pass rush help, but -full time- they're in serious need of OLB help, and you'd really hope to fill both those needs at once.

Now it's entirely possible that new GM won't really take Rex's defense under consideration, and just go after the best players at every pick. It's a strategy I prefer, and maybe the best chance for this kid to fulfill his sad childhood dream to become a NYJ.

it's so obvious that the Jets want a pass rusher in the 1st round but my question is if Demontre, Jarvis Jones, and either Werner or Montgomery are gone by 9, do the Jets take the 4th best pass rusher in the top 10? The WR or OG value is better (and the offense is in terrible shape). I'd be cool with Keenan Allen or Chance Warmack instead. And that leaves the door open for pass rushers later.

the key to this is how many quarterbacks go before 9. It might be 2, but it also might be 0. this question about geno smith at 1 is a good one. For example he passed on the Senior Bowl where the Chiefs coach one of the teams. Would think he'd want to at least show up for a day to show off for Andy reid and company.

I like the idea of Chance Warmack at #9 ....everything starts up front

Also a thought is if Catapano's current projections hold up and we have too many other needs to fill with our 3rd round pick (and i think we gave our 4th for Tebow no?) and he isn't around by 5th, 6th round what about David Bass if he is still around? Seems both of these guys have a knack for getting the QB. Also I do like Jarvis Jones..if he falls to #9 it might make sense to grab him. We need something

We shouldn't let the Dolphins get this guy. Its bad luck and will come back to haunt us. I have read a lot of stuff on this kid and have done research...he's legit. Both on the season and last week. (Catapano killed it at EW Shrine Practice). If not then tell me who is worth a 1st round pick?....Sorry but not overly impressed with anyone at Senior Bowl. Datone Jones looks good but thats about it. No pass rusher i see worth a 1st round pick. Anybody been watching Senior Bowl Practice? If you think I'm wrong then tell me who stands out and is worth a 1st round pick. This kid in the 3rd or possibly 4th is a better value.

He is however being recruited as a 4-3 DE but this guy gets after the QB and in serious way....Jarad Allen is a 4-3 DE but if we had a chance to get him why wouldn't we? Allen played in Shrine game and went in later rounds. Just saying. Besides Jarvis Jones or Moore from TA&M) I'm not all that impressed with the top pass rushing LBs this year. and to take one at #9 who's name isn't Jarvis Jones or Domontre Moore will be a mistake in my opinion. If those 2 aren't left at #9 then we should use for another need. I'm not into 1st round draft picks on DE or LB who can't get more than 6 sacks a year. Have picked too many of those. Who was the last pass rusher we had who had 10 sacks? Well this kid had 12 sacks in only 10 games this year. Something to consider.
