I saw that at NFL Presser today that Goodell once again said the Redskins name offends some demographics.
That got me thinking. base don fate/history or whatever could have been some really offensive names for other teams?
I will start:
It's a good thing for the 49ers sake that the California Gold Rush was in 1849 and not 1869

the florida state seminoles pay money to the seminole tribe for the usage. that's great. If they were the Washington Algonquins and a similar arrangement was made, that would be no problem.
The word Redskin really is offensive. It's a racist slander (and a terrible logo) from a people that was genocided that actually happened. It's not politics, it's history.

Ya, Snyder must be doing something to keep that name intact.the florida state seminoles pay money to the seminole tribe for the usage. that's great. If they were the Washington Algonquins and a similar arrangement was made, that would be no problem.

if California Gold Rush was in 1869 instead of 1849, you think there would be pushback to the San Francisco 69ers?

Not me. I never let Commishes get to me. If you find what they say offensive remember they are not decision makers. They are like the President press Secretary. They just deliver the Bosses wishes. They just do exactly what they are told to do by the guys who hired them and pay them every week, the Owners.I find Godell offensive ....

There was a flag team from Vicenza that called themselves the 69ers. It's written numerically, so the translation is irrelevant. We destroyed them.
I think I put up 52 or some nonsense. For some reason there is an A9 team from Napoli called the 82ers. I think it was the first year for American football in Naples. There are a bunch of Niners fans in Italy. It probably stems from when they started televising the Super Bowl. I know at least one guy with a Niners tattoo.
