Jets | Derek Dimke signs

Nick Folk will have to defend his job again as the Jets have signed kicker Derek Dimke who spent time with the Lions in the preseason in 2012. Dimke was considered to be the top kicker available in the draft in 2012 but went undrafted and signed on with the Lions and failed to unseat now retired Jason Hanson. He was the most accurate field goal kicker in the history of Illinois University going 39 for 46 over 3 years. It didn’t take long to sign him as he had just tried out earlier in the day.

More information on the kicker from the kicker himself in 2011:

Also to go along with Dimke the Jets have also signed punter Ryan Quigley who was with the Bears in the preseason in 2012. Quigley from Boston College has a lot of experience at punting as he owns the BC record for punt attempts with 283 punts in four years and was 4th in the nation at punts inside the 20 in 2011.

Nothing wrong with a little competition.  If Westy was still around I would say their chances were pretty slim, but with a new guy in charge you never know.  I'd say Dimke probably has the better chance since Folk has been, although not bad, rather mediocre in his time here, and Malone was actually pretty respectable for the Jets last year when the rest of the ST could be bothered to block.
