So Where Is Our Pass Rusher???

Jets2013

Recommended Posts

With the pick of Sheldon Richardson its fairly obvious the Jets will be using multiple fronts (writing is on the wall for 4-3 front on obvious passing downs with the Richardson pick) Richardson can get to the QB from inside, Wilkerson has emerged and Coples shows promise......but who is our assasin? The 4th pass rushing guy in that front.  None of these guys are pure pass rushers.  There are no Dion Jordan, Jarvis Jones types left (especially come Saturday assuming we go offense with 2nd and 3rd round picks) so If we get through tonight without drafting a pass rusher then what?  Well maybe there is a solution.

Read about who Rex's friend and former assistant coach (and former NFL All Pro) Chuck Smith called this guy the best pure pass rusher and biggest steal in the draft earlier this year.  And check out Smith's recent twitter comments (posted below) as well as his comments from recent NY Times Article about 2013 draft prospect and pass rush specialist Mike Catapano.  (article link at bottom of this post).   They sound pretty compelling coming from a guy who trained all pros like Osi Umenyuora and others and was an all pro himself.

We need offense next few picks but after that on Saturday, why the hell not??  This kid falls into 5th or lower we should grab him and give him a shot before somebody else does.  He was reported as being "unblockable" at East West Shrine Practice winning all his 1 on 1 drills and averaged 1.2 sacks a game in 2012.  His pro day video is insane and is a physical freak @ 272 lbs with 7% bodyfat.  Sick production on field, high motor and strong leadership ability.  He is a small school guy, but in the 5th round who cares?  This kid would be a 1st round pick if he went to Florida or Bama.  Read the NY Times article.  Its a good read and I love the local kid, lifelong Jets fan angle.  At least he knows our pain :-/

Read up on this kid because if we go offense tonight he might be our new pass rushing specialist come Saturday.

an excerpt from this month's NY Times Article:

Catapano spent three weeks last spring, working for hours each day on footwork and speed, diet and agility, ankle flexibility and hand movements with Chuck Smith, a former N.F.L. defensive end. He ate with Smith at his home, watched film with him, "went into the bunker," as Smith put it.

"My goal is to train this new generation of pass rushers," Smith said. "They don't want bull rushers.  It's more important for guys to get there faster than ever. If Mike Catapano is in there on third down, over the biggest guy in the league, I promise he will destroy that guy. He's a special guy because of his effort."

High praise coming from a guy who trains all pros and was an all pro himself.  Yesterday's pick tells me Catapano is now a possibility.  Plus hes a local kid who grew up a loyal Jets fan.

Jesus dude. You do realize that none of us is actually John Idzik right?  Publicly fallating your mancrush in catapano is not going to get him drafted any quicker.  I have nothing against the guy and he could very well be a nice pickup in the 6th or 7th round, but now I really, truly hope he goes undrafted and is forced to blow TomShane for beer money, simply because of you and your little group.

I actually think that's a pretty eye opening post.  Guys like Catapano, none of us layman have seen play. Stuff like that is cool to read. Now I'll be looking for him.

It'd be interesting if he hasn't posted the same thing for the last two months in every message board he's been to.  I have nothing wrong with Catapano, but his circle-jerk really makes me want to c*nt punt somebody.

I think the Jets are done with the front 7 (except maybe in the 7th round):

Roster: Wilkerson, Coples, Garay, Richardson, Ellis, Harrison, Pace, McIntyre, Barnes, Harris, Davis, Mauga, Bellore

Very possible. I wouldn't mind a good DE/OLB prospect at some point but would prefer offense.
