Cannizzaro Scrambles to Keep his Side Job

A clarification needs to be made about a recent Sports Illustrated on line story written by actor, comedian and rabid Jets fan Jay Mohr that mentions Jets Insider.com and myself.

Part if it read as follows:

"I recently exchanged e-mails with Mark Cannizzaro, the Jets beat writer for the New York Post who also writes for Jets Insider.com. I asked him if it was my imagination or were these "fans" disproportionately harsh on Edwards? Cannizzaro quickly responded to my email and assured me that it was not my imagination. Jets fans are the worst on the Web. Excluding Raiders fans who are using their data ports to light up there Darth Vader skull bongs.''

It's true, Jay and I exchanged some e-mails and I'm friendly with Jay from his days doing some NFL TV work with Fox. I, however, never told Jay that "Jets fans are the worst on the Web,'' nor did I make any mention of the Raiders' followers.

I did concur with Jay about the fanaticism of some sects on Jets Insider.com and all over New York who are in constant search of a scalp to blame and behead for the Jets' problems and was in total agreement that too many fans are over the top in the blame game and lacking some rational thoughts too often.

I, however, did not collectively throw all Jets fans under the bus as was indicated by Jay's piece.

I know Jay, in no way, meant to make me out as a hater of all Jets fans. It just happened to come out that way in the way he wrote it and I felt the need to clarify. Jay's a terrific actor and comedian, a Jets fan with perspective and, most importantly, a good guy.

A day late and a dollar short. Id be livid if I had paid money hard earned money to JI to listen to this guy. You don't really believe the Editor of SI took it apon himself to make this stuff up do you?

They believe anything over there but they can't believe this was all a mistake. Can they?

Talk about drinking the koolaid. Maybe Mohr was right.

Is it me or is Cannafatso about 2 centimeters from comparing Jet fans on the web with N.a.z.i. germany here? Give it a rest - someone needs to take the blame for losing season in 2 out of 3 year, one of the worst records in franchise history and a coach who currently holds a worse record than Joe Walton (whom Cannizarro and coleagues once crucified).

"fanaticism of sects"? What the eff does that mean? He just keeps digging a deeper hole for himself.

It's pretty simple-some people over there(and I psoted 1 time there yesterday for the first time in months)and here think that Edwards, despite his personal charm, is not a good head coach. Many goos coaches had rough first or second seasons-Lombardi, Parcelss, Bellichick, Nool, Laudnry, Walsh. But I doubt many had double digit losses in their 5th season at a one stop.

While Jay is wrong about Herm, he wasn't wrong about Jets fans. Or New York fans in general. Or sports fans in general. It's not a New York exclusive. All sports fans can get this way, especially when they get beaten down. Look at Lions fans. Hell, look at European soccer fans. They're nuts!

Yeah, i have to kind of agree here. I went to 2 away games this year, Baltimore and Miami. Now, not once did I really hear any hometown fans really get on the coaching staff, even after obviously bone-head play calls. This is in direct contrast to sitting in the top tear at giants stadium. It really seems like jets fans can't help themselves with being rabidly critical of the coach, the offensive coordinators, hell even dick curl gets a good amount of attention. Herm isn't the best coach in the world, but come on, his record as a jet coach is far from terrible. What in the world can you expect when 2 qb's go down in the same series in game 3, when you have 5 qb's who get playing time in a given season, when your new backup RB is lost at the beginning of the year, and your pro-bowl center, the anchor of the line, is lost at the beginning of the season. If these jets fans, who obviously have great passion for their team, were to channel their energy in a possitive way instead of spending half the time looking at the playcallers booth and booing, then maybe sitting there would be a little more enjoyable and exciting for everyone. IF you want to yell and give someone crap, save it for 3rd down on defense and let the OTHER team hear it.

Well since the Ravens recently won a Super Bowl and the Dolphins fans know they have a legitimate coach leading them I am sure their fans are a little more patient. When Parcells was coaching this team alot of things were different as were the reactions of the fans.

No, no, no...

He's clarifying, he's in touch with the fanbase. Which gives him first hand knowledge of how mean spirited and negative we can be.

He's a good guy, he stops at tailgates instead of heading right in for the buffet. Of course, he's stopping because his fat ass can't walk any farther, but that's beside the point.

However did he manage to work in a 16H refrence

How long untill the Posters of Jetsinsider realize they are being taken for a ride and their money?

Bugg, this is the line that got me-

I did concur with Jay about the fanaticism of some sects on Jets Insider.com and all over New York who are in constant search of a scalp to blame and behead for the Jets' problems and was in total agreement that too many fans are over the top in the blame game and lacking some rational thoughts too often.

Fair enough, Mark.

You've acknowledged there is a problem, but you don't like it that Hermy is getting blamed for it.

So tell us, Mark-

What's the problem (you acknowledged that there is one, so tell us specifically what it is, oh mighty one), and who's to blame?

If you ask me, JetNation is to blame. The best posters are over here now, so what does that leave? That's right, the crap that Jay was talking about.

I like this part. Notice Mohr isn't the guy who calls the posters of JI the worst in the league. It's Cannizzaro.

Smizzy, this entire episode is pathetic. When is Sooth going to accept the fact that his website jumped the shark two fu**ing seasons ago?

This whole "Jay Mohr/Mark Cannizaro said" staged episode is as transparent as Morton Downey Junior getting attacked by skinheads at Kennedy Airport, ten years ago.

It's really sad.

Cannizzaro's articles are nothing more than a fat man eating lasagna while his baby bro writes love stories aboutthe Jets..

Cimini and Lange are 110% better!

well what do you expect? Anyone who is dumb enough to pay 55 dollars for something they can read by opening up the morning New York Post deserves to be called "dumbest in the NFL". Most of the people on these sites are from the New York-New Jersey area, so it's not like yoru not going to get any Jets info anyway. Does anyone honestly think Cannizaro would post more info on some fan website than he would on teh New York Post? Hell no.

Sooth saw an opportunity to make money and thought people would be dumb enough to buy into this crap and he was right. Let them worry about it. I get to find out all the info they do and talk to some great people on this site for FREE. And I don't have to sift through an entire webpage of 16 year old one line posts or people telling me im not a true jets fan. All we have is the occassional EB or GlennFoley exagerration or donut eating cops (oops, i mean, i love cops.

Mohr is a tool. He's actually funny, but only because he steals his jokes from the better comedians that surround him. He's a decent actor as well, so long as he can play the fawning "good guy" that his leading actress is running either towards or away from in those pathetic romantic comedies. Let's hope he keeps his hair from thinning any further and losing his roles to Owen Wilson. As a sports writer, he's definately one to pique interest, but only because he is one-sided and willing to say the tough things that need to be said...so long as he can attribute it to someone less famous if the readership gets pissed. Jay Mohr is a Chamelian that is successful and capable of wearing many hats--unfortunatly he has yet to find one that fits and doesn't make him look like a dickhead. Canizzaro should be pissed off--Mohr threw him down in the puddle and stepped on him to keep his own shoes from getting dirty. What a low-down prick.

If you pick apart people's words enough you can make them say whatever you want them to. I think you guys are going a little overboard. BTW who really gives a sh*t what some beat reporter thinks of the fans on a message board.

Ummm He's the beat reproter those posters pay to read news from.
