I feel better about this team than I did in 2011 and 2012, and I don't know what that means

Crazy to see 10 wins? Vegas has us at 10-1 to win the division.

The defense looks like a top 5 type of unit.

If Geno can play, idk...this team certainly isn't going to suck.

We knew last year by this time that there was zero to look forward to.

If they get anything out of QB this team will be much better than expected. It's safest to assume they will get nothing out of QB.

Geno played teams that actually could pressure the QB in college. I don't see how he wouldn't be an upgrade at this point.

Shut up about it then. No one is going to do any good here, especially the QB. We need Gruden or Bevell. Until then these guys are just stealing money from Woody and his friend, me.

4-12

Agreed. If Smith gets the nod and  does something decent midseason perhaps you could bump it up to 5 or 6 wins.

Otherwise Sanchez still stinks. The defense will be decent. But that's deceptive;  teams know Pick 6 is a turnover waiting to happen and doesn't figure to mount more than 10 points of offense weekly.Opponents will sit back and wait for Sanchez to either screw up or simply fail.

Sanchez had maybe the worst (full) season a QB has ever had and we still won 6 games.  I set 6 wins as our floor, since the worst QB of all-time will be getting replaced, at some point, by the top-rated QB in the draft.

Yeah, while I'm not going to start betting on the Jets having a particularly successful season, I'm really not sure what about this team has anyone expecting any worse of an outcome than last year.  I'm not sure of any losses of significance that weren't in some way addressed while they've obviously at least attempted to try to address the QB position compared to the sh*t-show it was last year, to the point that even if Geno ends up being a complete bust, I'm still not sure how they could end up getting any worse play out of the position.

Got 12-1 to win the AFCE,  and 50-1 to win the AFC.        http://www.sportsbook.ag/livesports/football

$100  on each.  ya never know Sanchez may wake up enough this season, to get the team on a roll

Last years positions compared to this years personnel wise, injurys included.

CB's better

S   Worse

LB's Even

DL  MUCH BETTER

QB just can't be worse

RB  Not sure here I am leaning towards better if Ivory is the goods

WR  Again I just can't see it being worse than last year

OL  Slightly worse IMO, we lost an Pro Bowl RG, Winters could ease that pain thou

TE  Keller really never made an impact if he was even on the feild regardless of his talent, so at worst equal.

AND most importantly OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER than anything we have had here since 1999, and that isn't me being a MM fan, it is just the sad truth, the Jets haven't had an OC in 10+ years who was semi competent.

6-10 is the floor, and that is with a lot of injury's IMO, if we stay healthy 9 wins is not out of the question, won't always be pretty like 09, but I can see this team winning 9 games.

Pretty pissed about that thou, really was hoping for the full 0-16 rebuild year that can catapult you to 10+ years of success if done correctly.

The defense looks very good this year. Wilk is coming into his own, Coples appears ready to take the next step, and Richardson sounds like a beast on the inside. That's a scary defensive front. And yet, the offense has actually been performing reasonably well in practice - for the first time since Rex took over. That's gotta be the most encouraging thing. And they really haven't gotten Ivory out there yet, either.

There's hope. Wasn't expecting hope, but there is a little bit.

It's because it feels like there's a plan in place and a guy in Idzik who doesn't act like he and Rex are running a fraternity. What you're feeling is a sense of order being restored.

I'm not even prepared to say the OL is downgraded this year.

Ferguson & Mangold didn't exactly have career years in 2012, so I think we'll see improvements at LT and C.

Also at RT now that Howard has a full year of pro experience. Plus he lines up opposite Mo every day in practice. If he doesn't get destroyed all the time against him Howard should be at least as good as he was last season.

LG the only question of whether it's an upgrade is Colon's ability to stay the field.

And at RG I expect a slight downgrade. But if the team felt '12 was Moore's best season they could have easily kept him given the lack of interest in him league-wide.

Less predictable play calling should only benefit them as well, if it has any effect.

Overall I can easily see this unit being better than '12. Or anyway it's not a slam dunk that they'll be worse.

The big barrier may be the schedule, which seems on paper to be pretty tough. Never know, though.

I don't remember a single practice last year that there was any stories of the O looking good.  I have already seen a bunch.  Sanchez seems much better in MM offense and it sounds like Smith is doing better then I thought.  The WR's sound like they are much better then last year and so are the TE, RB and O-line.   If this team had any kind of Offense last year would have won 2 or three more games.

I dont think 9 - 7 or 10 - 6 is that crazy.

In 3 years, when all this fails, searching out these posts will be the only joy.

Agreed not because I think they're going to have a better season than the past couple of years record wise (I really cant tell at this point) but because of the young, ridiculously athletic team the Jets have put in place over the past few years.  As opposed to aging veterans they were signing with no regard to the future under Tanny.

If Mo Wilk, Coples, D. Davis, Dee M, Sheldon R., K. Ellis reach their potential coupled with Barnes and Garay making impact....and the Jets get consistent play from their veterans (Cro, Harris, Pace and Wilson) - this D is going to be nasty with Rex being more hands on this season.  They've got ridiculous potential as a unit.  Ridiculous.

Even on offense, if Hill reaches his potential, Kerley continues to improve, Ivory becomes the stud you saw glimpses of in New Orleans and the young OL players step up and take the starting positions by the horns.  They might not even be as unbearable as they've been in the past.  That and I'd imagine next offseason would focus heavily on the skills position...this team has a future.  Especially if Idzik is smart enough to let Rex see this through.

Agree with all of it except the last sentence.  Still undecided on Rex.  Not Anti-Rex yet.

For those that say the defense wasn't that good last year, how do you account for the 6 wins we had. Yeah, I know 6 isn't a lot, but that offense sure as hell didn't get you all those wins, and there were many games where they were pulling against the defense with turnovers, terrible field position, etc. There were actually a few games (1 off the top of my head, but I think there were more) where we literally would have been better off punting the ball on 1st down. I'm using that word correctly: we would have literally been better off, not figuratively. That's how bad it was.

So even without Revis, the defense is crazy. The defensive line is young, athletic and highly talented. Lots of great guys upfront.

Bringing me back to the offense. HOW do you not add a Tavon Austin or a Tyler Eifert or someone of that level to this offense? If Holmes doesn't come back, I think we're actually worse at the offensive skill positions than we were last year, and that is downright scary. Geno Smith is the wildcard though, as good QB play can elevate everyone. I feel much better about the QB position this year, but there's still nothing in terms of TEs/WRs and very little when it comes to RBs, especially given all the injury concerns.
