Section 333
I know Cano's dad said "I hope he can stay there" a few weeks ago but Cano could easily demand an overpriced deal knowing how desperate the Yankees are Not only will he demand more because of the situation the Yankees are in, but also he may not want to stick around in his last 6 or 7 years on a team that may not spend too much more than his contract. Personally Id be of with him going, all the players entering their 30's who get the big deals, Howard, Puljos, Hamilton, Halliday, ect, prove that their best years are in the rear view mirror. He may be still a stud for the first 3 years of a 7 year deal, but why pay the price since I don't see the Yankees legitimate contenders for the next 3 years. I doubt they will even resign Kuroda. Hal and Hank have shown us its just a business to them. I do not think we will see a payroll over the lux tax number till Fox completes their mission of taking over the Yankees. 1st step is to own Yes, then from there who knows. SayNoToDMC
I wouldn't really care. Id like him back but if he's asking for to much he puts in about 50% effort most of the time and paying these aging guys doesn't seem to work out
Blackout
I personally don't see why the Dodgers would spend too much on him when their lineup is already so great. then again you can never underestimate them.
Bugg
The Yankees are about to go through a down period. Having seen how players north of 35 invariably get worse and tend to break down, Cano should get a contract of no more than 5 years. If he wants more than that, he can get it elsewhere. And the jogging to 1st base in a contract year, the bat on the shoulder a few pitches each game, sorry, if you want to be a paid top dollar, that's crap. Even the hated Alex Rodriguez runs hard out of the box every time, all of 3 or 4 times a game. it's not that hard. Further not many MI guys do much after 35-there's Jeter, Joe Morgan and to a lesser extent Utley right now.And Craig Biggio, who the BBWAA will not vote into the HoF for "unknown reasons".Without PEDs and amphetamines MLB's better teams are going to be composed of players in their 20s and early 30s. But for the most part MI tend to fall off, like Sandberg, Larkin, et al. Frankly not sure Cano has the speed of Morgan nor the work ethic of Jeter and Utley. CrazyCarl40
If the Yankees let Cano walk, who would be the anchor of their line-up for the next 5 years? Jeter is about done and A-Rod has a looming suspension. When are Granderson and Tex free agents?

Anything more than that is insane. if the Yankees should have learned anything from the aged All Stars all over their DL the last 2 seasons, players over 35 are not worth it. If someone else wants to make that mistake, go let 'em.

The Yankees shouldnt be cutting payroll, ever. And its not like theyre's young guys being held back here either....the Yankees dont have any farm hands. What's amazing is how fans are buying into it. George would not have stood for this cheap sh*t.

Not saying they should necessarily cut payroll. But there is no good reason to keep overpaying guys well past their production would justify. Grant though that the complete lack of farm system production is hurting them. A guy like Mike Trout or Matt Harvey, who you control at a low salary for several years, make payroll very manageable. And the Yankees are not getting those guys in the draft. In fact most of their draft picks, like Andrew Brackman or Dante Bichette Jr., have pretty much sucked. There's a subtle change in MLB right now with teams locking up their stars earlier, and further more teams are generating higher revenue. Tampa is drafting roughly at the same part of the draft as the Yankees and they don't seem to have any problem drafting talent.
KennyOB7
. Age and years are a problem with Cano. CC at 33 aint the same, Tex is broken down at 32, Cano is 31 in a few months. He's a solid hitter who has at most 3 good seasons left. The thing with Cano is he's not much of a difference maker, Overbay had more winning big hits than Cano this season. 5 years the absolute max for me.
