Mets to sign Curtis Granderson

New York Mets and outfielder Curtis Granderson have agreed on a four-year, $60 million deal, pending the outcome of a physical, ESPN sources say.

Granderson, 32, met Sunday with Mets general manager Sandy Alderson in what was described as more of an introductory meeting before talks escalated quickly.

"We ate a nice meal, and it was great to enjoy some salmon," Granderson said.

Granderson provides a second power infusion to the Mets' outfield, which desperately needs a power upgrade. The Mets signed former Arizona Diamondbacks and Oakland Athletics outfielderChris Young to a one-year, $7.25 million contract last week. Last season, the Mets ranked 11th in the National League in home runs. They surrendered 22 more long balls than they produced.

Granderson, meanwhile, had 41 homers in 2011 and 43 in 2012 with the New York Yankees, albeit with a more homer-friendly home ballpark in the Bronx. A broken forearm during spring training and a pinkie injury suffered during the season limited Granderson to 245 plate appearances in 2013.

The team's projected lineup includes right-handed hitters Young, David WrightTravis d'ArnaudJuan Lagares and Ruben Tejada, plus lefties Daniel Murphy and Lucas Duda or Ike Davis. There also is switch-hitter Eric Young Jr.

It appears Granderson will play left field, with Lagares in center and Chris Young in right. That potentially would free up Eric Young to play second base should the Mets trade Murphy.

Mets sign Bartolo Colon, which I like. The dude battles. Not too hyped for Stephen Drew, though. I know they haaaaate Ruben Tejada, but if rather throw him out at short and use any proposed Drew money elsewhere. It's a shame they won't make a call for Giancarlo Stanton. He'd be dreamy.

I think it's good for the Mets, too, but Grandy won't hit many homers in that endless canyon of a ballpark..

I feel bad for power hitters who crush a ball at Citifield only to watch it die on the track. I swear I've seen David Wright shed a few tears in just that scenario.

This was a good signing.  His injury last year was a freak thing, he will help the Mets out.

Nice guy but he has seen better days and now he's a Met for YEARS to come. He may just go below the Mendoza line by years' end. He 's hitting .212 with a month to go. WOW.
