CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora previously reported that O’Brien was interested in a return to the NFL and has drawn interest from two teams already.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is also reporting that one team has reached out to O’Brien directly and, to a larger degree than last year, he’s being viewed a serious candidate to make the jump.

Bill O'Brien's amended contract shows he reduced the price of an NFL buyout from $19.33 million last year to $6.48 million for this year.

Houston for sure.  it would be pretty scummy for the jets to reach out to him with rex still here

that's a big turnoff to potential hires and a very big no-no

doesn't seem to be woodys style, don't know if it's idzik's style

One day I can tell stories about the time I thought the Jets were out of it, done, dead,...but Rex Ryan from the depths of despair pulled 3 extra wins out of his pocket in week 16 and boom!...we were actually 9-2 at home in 2013 not 6-2....and the rest is magical history....the jets dynasty was born.

Well then someone pulled a no-no as Houston is the only team to fire its coach sofar and the article said 2 teams have contacted him. Hmmmmm............

yeah hard to say who it is.  Snyder seems to fit the bill, but I think he'd want a bigger name.  tampa bay maybe.

Both Minnesota and Houston have pondered O'Brien.

Personally, I would be shocked if O'Brien came to the NYJ while BB is still in New England. OB has great respect for BB, and it is not his style to cross someone who believes has done great things for him in his career.

OB's agent has done a very good job of continuing to get his client's name out with job opportunities, as he should.

But, do not forget that OB actually has a good thing going on at PSU:

-The hardship of the sanctions have been lessened, and the program has dealt with the most severe portion of them

-He has a team that he loves, filled with offensive talent and a young QB who will be the real deal. Based on expected recruiting closes (2014 and 15), PSU could challenge for a title as soon as 2016 or 2017.

-He is settled in the PSU community and beloved. He has a special needs child that has to concern himself about where he places him.

-From everyone that knows him, OB's word means a lot to him, and he told his first recruiting class that he would be there for them through their journey at PSU.

OB may bolt for the pros this year, who knows. But it will be for a job that he desires and covets, not a flash in the pan shiny thing. I would definitely doubt it is for the NYJ-just not his style.

I would look at him more of a BB replacement, when that time comes.

Actually posted this in the wrong thread, but point still stands.

It's pure recency bias. People need to go back and look at the games where he was being coached by Lovie Smith, protected by J'Marcus Webb, and throwing to Devin Hester. That's exactly what Cutler would look like here.

Kimberley A. Martin: Rex Ryan told players during Saturday's team meeting that the #Jets front office has already begun making calls to potential head-coaching candidates, per source. #newsdaysports

so the anonymous source is back.

yay

if he made this up to motivate the team, he's toast

if he didn't make this up, the jets FO looks like amateur hour for both doing it and getting caught

yay
