F.Chowds
Dee Milliner’s rocky rookie season ends with AFC defensive player of the week Posted by Josh Alper on December 31, 2013, 11:50 AM EST AP Things did not start off well for Jets cornerbackDee Milliner in his rookie season. Milliner battled injuries during the summer and then got benched more than once early in the year as teams picked on him to positive effect in the passing game. Rex Ryan offered weekly support for the rookie, but the results didn’t get better right away. They did eventually get better, though. Safety Ed Reed took on a mentorship role with Milliner and the rookie closed the season showing improved play. That culminated in two interceptions and a large hand in a quiet day from wide receiver Mike Wallace in the 20-7 Jets win that knocked the Dolphins out of playoff contention. Milliner has been named the AFC defensive player of the week as a result, leaving things on a high note that creates a lot more optimism about his future than there was a month ago. If Milliner can build on that, Ryan’s praise of Milliner when he was struggling will seem a lot less hyperbolic than some other things Ryan’s said over the years. 77DRAFT
Congratulations Dee, you earned it and thanks to Ed Reed, who probably has it in him to be a great secondary coach, which we will need.
Maxman
This is great news! Geno and Milliner both have reasons to feel good as they head into the offseason. Same for Brian Winters, he had such a rough time early on but he improved as well. The Jets are going to need all 3 of them to start next year (most likely for Geno). faba
This would be huge for us if Milliner can start playing consistently good to reflect his first round pick

Agree, if these 3 guys can be even solid players next year we have a chance to be a very good football team next season. Hell, If Geno alone can be solid we have a chance to be a very good team. It's hard not to be encouraged by what we saw from these guys and the monster they got in Richardson. A good offseason this year and we should be a real threat next season. A good offseason this year and we should be a real threat next season. The Jets added Ivory, Winters, Richardson, Geno, Nelson and Bohanon who are all players that should help next year and beyond. They did this with no cap room and a new GM. Interesting to think what they will look like next year if they can add 6 players who have an even bigger impact. (WR1, WR2, TE, Safety, OG). It is wishful thinking but that is what the offseason is for!

Sperm Edwards
Milliner's performance at the end of the season is hugely encouraging. Plus it gives Idzik another reason to draft offense. ...or gives him the confidence to draft more defense, thinking that he's 2 for 2 with Milliner and Richardson, and since the way Seattle built their team was to go ultra-heavy on defense and OL in the draft and bring in high-priced free agents at RB, WR, TE, and QB (before stepping in sh*t with Russell Wilson). And unlike Seattle, we already have a high-priced left tackle and interior lineman in place, so that just leaves defense for their top 40 level picks. It's The Seattle Way. Just saying, there's every chance we use some of our gobs of cap room on sure things (or supposedly sure things) on offense and go pure BPA in the first 2 rounds of the draft regardless of whether they're offense or defense. BurnleyJet
I'd keep Reed as a player coach in 2014. The mans physical have diminished buy he's the best ever Safety. I'd keep him for his game smarts alone.
