Johnny Manziel will leave Texas A&M after his redshirt sophomore season and head for the NFL.

Manziel won the Heisman as a redshirt freshman quarterback in 2012 when Texas A&M went 11-2, beat Alabama on the road and won the Cotton Bowl. This season, A&M finished 9-4 while Manziel battled injuries and the team's defensive performance declined significantly.

In 2013, Manziel threw for more yards but ran for fewer than he did in 2012, and his performance in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl -- the final game of his college career -- was a perfect example of why he came to be one of the most talked-about players in college football.

In A&M's 52-48 victory over Duke, Manziel threw for 382 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 73 and a score. And on one of those touchdown passes, he even hurdled a lineman.

And yes, his off-field travails were also a big reason he became simply known as "Johnny Football." Manziel became an instant celebrity in southeastern Texas and drew attention for his friendship with Drake, trips to Cowboys games and Oklahoma casinos and of course, the women he was dating.

We also can't forget the autograph allegations that dominated August but resulted in a half-game suspension after Manziel was cleared by the NCAA. They provided some great trash talking material.

The first freshman quarterback to win the Heisman is also just the fifth Heisman winning quarterback to leave school early for the NFL Draft, following Andre Ware, Sam Bradford Cam Newton and Robert Griffin III. On Wednesday a report surfaced that Manziel had chosen an agent.

Ware won as a junior at Houston in 1989 and was selected by the Detroit Lions with the seventh overall pick in the 1990 NFL Draft. However, he didn't play in the NFL again after he was cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1995.

Bradford won as a redshirt sophomore in 2008 and left Oklahoma after he injured his shoulder in the 2009 season opener. He was the first overall pick of the St. Louis Rams.

Newton transferred to Auburn for the 2010 season from Blinn College and won the Heisman and National Championship in his junior season. He was the first overall pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2011 and the Panthers host the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the NFC Playoffs on Sunday.

The Washington Redskins traded up to the second pick of the 2012 draft to select Griffin, who left Baylor after winning the Heisman in his redshirt junior season.

Will Manziel be drafted as high as those four quarterbacks? He's a likely first round pick and could be a top 10 selection, especially if he does well in pre-draft workouts.

Selfishly, we would have loved for Manziel to return for another season. He's the most entertaining player both on and off the field in college football. But his decision makes complete sense, especially if he's going to be selected in the neighborhood of the four quarterbacks who left early before him.

Never happen.

Manziel won't get out of the top 5.

I agree, and if Houston holds on to the top pick, then he goes #1.

Yeah, I know, Obrien wants a pocket QB, blah, blah, blah. Owner wants to renergize the fanbase with the local kid.

Now, if they trade out, then I would look for whoever takes that pick to grab Bridewater, Meaning Manziel probably "falls" to Cleveland, TB or Minnesota, but you are absolutely right, doesnt get out of the top 5.

Baller.  I'd love him.

That said, watch that program fall to sh*t after he leaves.  He's been propping Sumlin up.  Guys a fraud.  And people thought he'd be a good replacement for Rex.  lulza

Absolutely, this dude would own this franchise, with his play and his swagger. We need him now.

I posted this once before here, and don't recall if anyone responded... to me, Manziel looks like a little boy. I have doubts about a kid with that big a noggin and that scrawny a body running around and taking NFL hits. He just looks small to me... and small usually means fragile.

I don't watch much college anymore though, has his 14 year old girl body been exposed already as an issue for him?

Fair point, but I am being genuine with my question - I just don't know anything about what's been said of Manziel's build. I was hoping for those in-the-know to edumacate me a bit.

6'1" 210 is pretty solid man.  Yet he is no Cam Newton and at the same time no Doug Flutie either. Hope that helps.  LOL

I don't know if anything has been exposed, but I agree 100%.

I think his run-around-the-rosy routine will get old, real-quick in the big league. Once he gets landed on by a 300+ pound body and injures his anything, he'll have to pull off his Houdini act with lingering health issues.  I don't suspect he can.

He'll be the most exciting pre-season quarterback to ever live, though.

His body looks like it's 5' 160 pounds, and his giant dome makes up for the other 11" and 50 pounds.

One solid hit from JJ Watt and I think his head might pop off...

No joke, he looks like he wears about a 38 jacket, and a 10 fitted cap.

Not important measureables. the important ones to measure are his toughness, leadership, cockiness, desire to do anything to win, and confidence in himself and that he can make everyone around him better.

That other crap, height 40 time etc, just stats GM's use to downgrade some poor kid, so they can justify not drafting a kid too high so you dont have to pay him.

In a QB, Joe Namath always said, the INTANGIBLES make a great QB.

I wonder how much his head would be worth on Ebay if that happen?

I agree just answering the Ape's question.  He plays like he's 7 foot tall and craps bolts of lightening.

It will very interesting to see what his actually height and weight really are.

he looks 5'11 195 but who knows.

First off Russell Wilson changed the height convo. You can't just write Manziel off cause he's short anymore.

he supposedly has huge hands. And ya know what they say about a guy...

another rumor was his father grew an inch or two when he was 22, there literally could be some behind the scenes growing yet to be done. (natural or artificial)

going on early record Manziel will go high... real friggin high. Like 2 to the Rams. Cause no one believes in Sam Bradford. Or 1 to Houston. Cause it makes so much sense marketing Johnny Football to the city of Houston.

this conversation is just getting started get ready for 4 months of it. If i have any balls what so ever I'll put him at 1 in the first mock Jan 15. stay tuned...

I just commented in another post today I think Bridgewater, Bortles and Manziel all go top 10. He still looks about 5'11 to me...

Geno is skinny and scrawny too.  They're kids.  They can fill in.  Mark was pretty scrawny and put on a ton of muscle.

His size doesnt bother me, he's a gamer and knows how to avoid contact/big hits.  I honestly dont know how he will translate, I think he will because I think he can throw in the pocket to every level but I get the concerns.  My biggest is him in NYC but he's so freaking exciting to watch and he's got so much potential, I'd take a shot.
