Belichick had a contract with the New York Jets that said he is the next coach after I step down. He even accepted a $1 million bonus from Mr. Hess last year to stay around to take the job." "He didn't say much, only that things had changed since Mr. Hess had died. He said he wanted to quit, and I told him if that's what you want to do, then go ahead and do it" "...Then he went down the hall and had the weird press conference...He said some things about me that weren't true. He also said some things that were said in private conversations between coaches, which coaches know are to not be repeated." "His excuse about things changing with the death of Mr. Hess was weak." "His excuse about things changing with the death of Mr. Hess was weak." come on , this is Jet history 101... he was 100% right to leave,, Parcells had promised to totally step out of picture and give Belichek total control as HC/GM,,,but nooooooooo, the egomanica parcells had to stay on as GM,,after yeras and years of bein the brains behind Parcells game plane, Belly said 'enough'... he knew if he took job as HC with parcells as GM, then Parcells would get credit if team won and if they struggled Parcells would move back to sidelines,, Belly did the only thing he could do to show the world why Parcells is a .750% coach with Belly as DC and a .340% coach without Belly... I was sure I was going to open this thread and find a rant about BB allowing the drop kick by Flutie on the XP or some crazy sh*t like that. Actually, I believe the NFL and the Hess estate wanted Bill Parcells to stay on to up the price of the franchise.... Remember, it was sold right around that time. The new owner (woody in this case, but it could have been anyone) was convinced that Bill Parcells would be around, and possibly coach again. Belly had been promised his own show, Parcells reneged (could be for reason AEC said), but regradless Belly knew once again he would be in parcells shadow... I am NOT BSing, this is exaclty what happened... Belly reached out to family friend (Kraft had nurtured a off field relationship with Belly and wife while he was up there) and said HELP!!!! He knew if he just said No thanks to Jet job he woul dbe blackballed, but if he got NE job he could somewhat politically walk away,, again, i am truly tellin u thios is what happened,, which is why i have moe resentment for Parcells than Belly,,if Parcells had stepped away we would have had the Pat coachin staff that went to the DSuper Bowls and obviuosly it would have been us and NOT the Pats in all those Super Bowls... there are a few posters on here that can back me up cause they know the source also,, if they want to confirm they can,,, Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
