flgreen
Sidney Rice has interest from Jets, Saints, Seahawks BY JOE SORIANO - MAR 17TH, 2014 AT 12:54 PM The New York Jets made a splash signing when they inked former Denver BroncosNo. 2 wide receiver Eric Decker to a lucrative deal near the start of the free agent period, but they are still in the market for more help at the position. Taking a flier on a lesser-known receiver as a quality contributor would make sense, and the Jets previously showed interest in Brandon LaFell and Emmanuel Sanders before they signed elsewhere. Not only are the Jets looking at speedster Jacoby Ford as a potential depth guy and reclamation project, but they are also looking at a bigger name at the position. Per a source close to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets have shown interest in Sidney Rice, who was an easy cap casualty for the Seattle Seahawks to make. The Seahawks have always been interested in bringing Rice back at a cheaper price, because he does have talent to make up for the fact that he’s usually injured. I’m sure Golden Tate leaving also makes them more interested in bringing back Rice. Rapoport also reports that the New Orleans Saints have interest in Rice, and that’s a pretty interesting development. They released Lance Moore and let Robert Meachem leave due to cap issues, but they now have things cleared up and would prefer to sign Rice than ask Moore to return (that would appear to be an awkward encounter, and Moore is also set to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers). Rice caught 50 passes for nearly 750 yards and seven touchdowns in 2012, so he’s still a quality wideout who fits best as a nice WR3.
Greenseed4
I think I like the idea of Sidney Rice moreso than the actual reality of signing Sidney Rice.
Jetlife33
I would much rather Rice than Ford. But if we want both then sure. We probably won't end up with either.

SoFlaJets
I would much rather Rice than Ford. But if we want both then sure. We probably won't end up with either. This...if YOU were an NFL WR and you had a choice to make on who you would rather go to, you would weigh the options and say the money was exactly the same, who would you want throwing the ball to you Geno Smith or Drew Brees? Brees/Saints; 446 -651 4918 and 39 TDs or Smith/Jets; 266-480 2932 13 TDs case closed why is my writing getting smaller and smaller?
BroadwayJoe12
Besides James Jones, most of the guys left are of the talented, but oft-injured/head-case variety: Britt, Holmes, Manningham, Rice, Austin, Burleson... While it seems their market is low, out of those six guys, I would imagine at least one of them puts in a healthy, productive season. Someone is gonna get a good bargain, and the other four or five teams will get what they paid for.

Brees spreads the ball around and doesn't over-target anyone that's not named Jimmy Graham, combined with the fact that he throws 40% of his passes at or behind the LOS and you can see how a WR might put up better numbers in an offense where he's the focal point as opposed to option number 4. That is of course unless you're peyton manning and setting all sorts of NFL records.

pedro55
He has talent, but he's worse than Pennington when it comes to injuries. It's almost a guarantee this guy won't play a full season or even half a season. or he will play, but not be 100 percent most of the season and suffer for it. It's an interesting signing, but it's like Garrard or Winslow last year. They might get lucky and he has a decent healthy year. Or he might be hurt all year and is pretty much a non factor. It's more a flip of a coin over planning on him contributing. If he helps, great, but if you depend on him to be a factor, it's a bad move. Yeah, Rice is a mess when it comes to injuries, but the bold is just a tad extreme; I'm fairly certain no such thing could ever possibly exist. If the Jets make a move though, they certainly should be avoiding any significant pay or guarantees as, like you said, it's simply a gamble and not someone they should be particularly relying on for this season's plan. Holmes has been injured and pretty much a selfish useless player since his big money payday. So the idea is to replace him with a guy who can't stay on the field for a little better production? Makes little sense. If they give him some 1 year deal for 1.2 million bucks, no guarantees, why not, but the guy is a gamble and counting on him to do anything is like counting on Garrard to be the QB. No doubt about that. But the last two seasons he has been on the field quite a bit more. If he can add some depth i do not see any harm signing him. While it make not be the 1.2 mil deal but at this point in the FA period it could be a bargain deal with very little downside.

Vinny16
If they can get him at a one-year, bargain-basement deal, fine. If he thinks he's worth more than that, then Idzik should look somewhere else, as there's no sense in wasting much cap space on someone who can't stay on the field for more than a handful of games. kelticwizard
Would be nice to have, but he's the same kind of receiver as David Nelson-or, since Rice has much the better stats, Nelson is the same sort of receiver as Rice. Not fast, tall and lanky possession type receiver. Pick him up if you want, but Geno seemed to be clicking with Nelson the last few games, and we really could use somebody to stretch the field.
