Jets80 Posted March 19, 2014 Share Posted March 19, 2014 With the draft being deep and the team needing to fill multiple positions, would it be wise for Izdik to trade back and acquire picks? San Francisco has an extra 2nd round pick. Cleveland has an extra 3rd round pick. Since Izdik's plan is to build through the draft, wouldn't this be a smart thing to do since we have so many needs on both sides of the ball? Greg Cossell was interviewed and he said the value of a pick in the teens will be the same as the value of a pick 10 or 20 slots later long story short everyone wants to trade back in this draft. Peep this site, http://www.gbnreport.com/picksbyteam.html (it shows all of the picks each team holds in an excel graph...I'd c&p it but it doesn't transfer well) This is a trade value chart, that is somewhat useful. Since the advent of the new CBA rules teams aren't as afraid to trade up since it's no longer cost prohibitive. But the chart serves as a nice guideline nonetheless http://www.gbnreport.com/tradevaluetable.html If we are to assume these trade values are accurate. The cost of moving from #30 (valued at 620 pts) up to our #18 pick (900 pts), is roughly equivalent to their first 2nd round pick, selection #56 (valued at 340). We could give them one of our 6th round picks to make up for the 20-pt difference, and being as we will have most of our comp picks in that round, and they don't have a selection in that round that would work perfectly for both parties. Final Breakdown: Jets get: pick #30, pick#56 SF gets: pick #18, pick#180-ish Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Plus everyone knows that this draft is deep so what would motivate a team to jump up and lose additional picks knowing that they are going to get a high quality player at their original spot? Greenseed4 Posted March 23, 2014 Share Posted March 23, 2014 At 18, there is a good chance we will have a shot at the #3 ranked WR, the top rated safety, or the last of the OTs. Marquis Lee, Tayler Lewan, or Calvin Pryor All three could be viable trade up bait for the right team, especially because there is nobody like Lee in the WR class, Lewan will be a tempting selection for Miami (who drafts right behind us) and will be the last of the first round graded OTs, and C. I think San Fran is could be a possible suitor. Presumably, we'd be taking CLE's 2nd 1st-round pick (26) plus a third for our (18). So they would still have two. If they go QB with their first pick, I could see them moving up for a particular WR they like. Otherwise, I could see them moving up to lock in one of the top QBs who might slip. But I don't see either case being very likely. I like moving down if there are three or more guys we value roughly equally at our pick. Then you can drop a few slots and likely still get one of them plus the extra pick. Yes, we have a lot of picks, but I could also see us packaging two or three lower round picks to move up in round 2 or 3 to grab a guy who slipped that we really like. Some people hate the idea of trading draft picks. I see them as pure commodities that should be traded as much and as often as possible if you are maximizing your return from the entire set.
