Flying Domestically - Cuban Cigars

Have a question for you guys - I'm flying to Dallas next weekend and planning on bringing a box of Cubans.  Anyone know if TSA will give a crap?  I know it's not illegal to possess Cubans- only to transport them into the country.  People have told me I'll be fine, but just wondering if anyone has experience.

THX in advance!

technically it is illegal to possess them. it is even illegal for an American citizen to smoke them in a foreign country, not that you would get prosecuted for either.

customs generally cares about this, not TSA. and even if Customs busts you coming in from an international trip, if you only have enough for personal use they just confiscate them. you don't get arrested. i have put many boxes of cigars through the xray and never once asked to open the bag to check. TSA doesn't care.

Yeah, TSA is too worried making sure your toiletries are put into the proper sized clear ziplock bags.

thanks JGB.  i'm trying to find a different humidor to store them in (mine says Hecho en Cuba all over it.. .lol).   but you think if push came to shove, it'd be fine?

if you are that worried take the bands off and keep them in your wallet.. there is no way to tell a cuban from a dominican if there are no markings. then put the bands back on when you get to your destination. that's how you can get them back in the states--really don't think it matters domestically. that's what i did coming back from buenos aires once. had a couple boxes of montecristo #2s. ditched the box on the plane and put the bands in my wallet. just put the cigars into a tupperware. when i was getting off the plane there were empty cigar boxes left in every aisle. i didn't get stopped but if i had i would've just said i got these from a street vendor who was rolling them on the spot in buenos aires.

i guess it is possible you could find some overzealous TSA guy who wants to go home with the cigars and makes a big deal over, but i can't see them caring. if you want to be super careful use the method above.

haha interesting stuff.  yeah, it's a domestic flight.  i have a box of 25 partagas #2's.  i'm not worried about the bands, as i planned on putting them in my wallet as you said.  my only concern was that the box says "hecho in cuba" on it... although a lot of dominican cigars say habano and cuba all over them don't they?  i'm gonna try to find another humidor that holds 25, but if not just roll the dice i guess.

I'm not a cigar person but thought about doing this on a Dominican trip a couple years ago.

Just curious, if you're blindfolded, is there really something about a Cuban that you can't taste in a better Dominican cigar?
