WR – Allen Robinson: Penn State (6’2″, 220)

allen robinson
Strengths:

Robinson has outstanding hands and ability to make a play on a badly thrown ball.  He has a large catch radius, and really excels in the screen game, creating big plays after the catch.  Can leap and extend to a football well.  Has a nice burst off the line of scrimmage against off man or zone coverage.  Uses quickness rather than speed to create space for himself.  Fluid runner with above average route running ability that needs to work on his stems (route movement before primary break) and cuts.  Has the ability to turn a two yard screen into a big play with tremendous field vision, instincts and creativity.  Knows how to get open and use his body to work himself free in tight areas.  Has the frame to put on more size.

Weaknesses:

Lacks elite speed to become a true deep threat. Struggles to be physical at the line of scrimmage against a press corner. Doesn’t make sharp breaks consistently, slowing his route down, and giving the defender a chance to stay with him.  Takes extra steps on his stem to regain his balance, particularly on double moves.  Has a tendency to make catches with his body at times, but has reliable hands.  Tends to run routes half speed when the play isn’t designed to go in his direction.  Not a competitive blocker in the run game. Poor form when blocking allowing corners to stay low and get by him.

Overall Impression:

Despite having a true freshmen quarterback in Christian Hackenberg, Robinson excelled in 2013.  He has the physical size and ability to become a starter after some development.  Can be a playmaker due to his quickness and field vision, but has to become a more consistent route runner.  He has the potential to be a reliable possession receiver because of his ability to catch the ball in tight areas using his frame.  He needs to become a better blocker if he wants to be a three down wide receiver in the NFL.  If he can’t be trusted to block and run consistent routes, coaches will see him as a niche “jump ball” wide receiver.  With some refining, Robinson could become a more complete wide receiver and have success at the NFL level.

Can't get off press. Fine, whatever, lots of guys in this class can't and don't get knocked for it. But Robinson is a total buffoon running routes. He's one of these guys that wastes a ton of effort with these absurd exaggerated moves that fool nobody and winds up shaking and baking himself right out of position.

I think this about sums him up. I actually like him. He passes the basic eye test in that he has a pro body and moves really well. Probably could have used another year but he was really productive over the past two.

There are soooooo many WR prospects in this draft...really starting to think they shouldnt take one in the first unless Watkins, Lee or Evans are there.  Otherwise, just wait and you can find ballers in rounds 2-5.

So would you go corner, TE or other in round 1.

Passes the name test.  Robinson sounds like a WR who gets gobs of yards.

That's why Milliner concerned me on draft day. Dee doesn't sound like a stud CB.  Dee is Raj's tattletale sister.

Super Bowl Sunday:

Announcer: And leading the (blank) out of the tunnel...Garoppolo!

Nope, I can't picture it either.

And

Holy sh*t, you're old. I'm gonna go have a grape soda now.

The classics never die. They still have re-runs on now.  Re-Run!! You see what I did there? BAHAHAHA!

We need a WR, maybe 2 in the draft. You need someone to blow the top off the defense or else we will get 8 in a box and they will dare us to beat the press on every down. I think the draft will be the folowing:

1CB, 2TE (amaro), 3QB (Garropolo or Mettenberger), 4WR, 4WR, 4OL, 5S, 6CB, 6DL, 6RB, 7OL, 7WR

Just the way I see the Draft lining up. May change if Amaro gets drafted before our 2nd round pick.

IDK---a couple of 4th round WRs do not fire me up. Or make me think we won't see 8 in the box.

Last names count. Allen Kline wouldn't quite get the name praise you just gave. Milliner! Millionaire!

Lol. But even if they count, at best it's a wash. Dee? DEE?

Maybe that's why Idzik stayed him. Think about it: on the show, Dee was pretty easily bought off for a quarter. If Dee really had Raj by the short hairs, then it would be a dollar.

That kind of amazing value is right up Idzik's alley IMO.

CB, OLB, QB, OL, S...no TE period, no WR (unless Watkins, Evans or Lee falls)

Just for arguments sake. Jets are going BPA

AT #18 these guys are still available:

Lee WR

Zach Martin OT

Ebron TE

Mosley ILB

Bridgewater QB

Dennard CB

Cooks WR

Who do you choose? I think Jets go with Mosley.

Either Lee or Bridgewater

Probably Lee.

Mosley reminds me of Upshaw. Great in college but will be mediocre in NFL because he lacks the elite athleticism.
