Quarterback Josh Freeman and the New York Giants have agreed to a one-year contract, Adam Caplan of ESPN.com reports citing a league source.

Freeman worked out for the Giants on Tuesday. He also recently visited the Chicago Bears.

Freeman will compete for the No. 2 job on the Giants with Curtis Painter and Ryan Nassib.

Eli Manning underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle Thursday but expects to be able to run again in about six weeks, the team previously announced. His 151 consecutive starts rate as the longest active streak in the NFL following the retirement of Washington's London Fletcher, and it is the third-longest by a quarterback in league history.

Interesting.  Doesn't say much in favor of Nassib after burning a high 4th on him just last season.  Already bringing in someone who they believe can push him down to 3rd string?

Truth is it was mindless to let Eli start the last couple of games there at a minimum.  They were eliminated and Nassib could have used the experience.  They might have found something that they didn't see in practices.  Maybe he's unbelievably cool under pressure and is only so-so in practice (like a Tebow who can actually throw like a QB).

And if they are/were still so locked into Eli, then risking injury to him in meaningless late-season games (when they're already eliminated) makes it even dumber.

Freeman would have been a threat to Geno in a way that Vick isn't.  If Vick begins the season as starter, we know he's old and the Jets will be looking to play Geno as soon as Vick gives them the opportunity to make a change.  If Freeman comes here and begins the season as starter, he's still young and might be the starter for a good number of seasons if he works out.  Geno could be out of the picture quick if Freeman becomes starter.

My thoughts exactly.  They were talking about Nassib as being possibly the first QB chosen if it wasn't Geno and now, in his second year, they don't even have the conficence in Nassib to play backup.
