Now it falls on Rex

For the 1st time in Rex' tenure we have a GM putting a premium on acquiring offensive help.  In the last month Idzik has done more for Geno/Vick than Tanny did for Sanchez in 4 years.

The Rex detractors often make that cute little joke where they pretend Rex never gets any blame for the shortcomings of the team.  They always ask when he'll be held responsible.

The answer is now.

Without having made 1 draft pick, this Offense is already light years ahead of where they were a year ago.

These are good times to be a Jet fan, my friends.  Prepare to get back to the type of excitement we experienced when Rex first got here.

Thank you and goodnight.

I agree. I haven't been this excited going into a season since 2010 - when the expectation was Sanchez would surely get better in his second year. How'd that work out for me?

Tanny never got Braylon, Holmes, LT or any other help for Rex.

If only Tanny had traded for Edwards the year before and had him play with Favre, he would've killed it with the connection.

I was thinking the same thing. He also got Faneca and Woody IIRC and were key members of that line.

It's amazing how many times we can have this debate in various forms. You'd think Hollywood was producing it and selling it to tweens.

Sorry to disrupt the avalanche of fresh topics on the front page.

The point is there should be no more debate.

Braylon had 1 good year, Holmes was a disaster, and LT was closer to retirement than CJ is.  Not to mention those happened 4/5 years ago and then Tanny shut down that side of the ball.

I don't care if they were all disasters. U (or someone else) said Tanny never got offensive help for Rex. He did. He drafted Hill, who supposedly graded out as a first rounder on Jets board. He also got him Shonn Greene, whom Jets had graded as the best runner of the draft (again, supposedly). And he tried to make a play for Manning as well, but that was a far shot that back fired.

every NFL coach needs play-makers. Guys that just break a play open and score points... when it's not expected.

Rex needs these guys seemingly more than most because of his defensive focus... but let's be real every coach needs players who can score points.

Now this is insight.

what falls on Rex is the quarterback he chooses this season.  Pick the wrong QB to go with the talent Idzik brought in and I can see Rex taking the blame for a losing season.  I am sure between Geno/Vick/Simms, one of these guys can make it rain out there on the field with a Decker and a CJ2K and hopefully a beast of a round 1 WR or TE.

You do know that, realistically, if the season were to start today the Jets would be marginally playoff caliber.

In terms of talent, yes.

Which goes to show you what an impressive job Rex did last year.  We were marginally playoff caliber with a dumpster fire of a roster.

This is a crappy blanket statement. Hardly the case too. It's sad that this is how you've framed the narrative inside your own head.
