we just had 45 minutes + on this story

can we just call it covered now ?

It's only just begun. Get ready for reports on Sam's first day at the facility, Sam's first press conference, Sam's first workouts, Sam's first training camp, Sam's pre-season games, Sam this, Sam that. One of the most annoying things about modern sports media is that they aren't content just to cover sports, whether it was Tebowmania, Manzielmania, or now Samania they traffic in creating and sustaining drama and to the average fan it is annoying to no end.

ESPN / NFLN

Shameless exploitation going on right now. Sam asks to be judged on his football ability. Gets drafted. Content rollout as if they've been crafting segments on this for weeks.

None of it is about his football ability.

ESPN went over the edge when they decided to broadcast draft coverage from a gay sports bar in LA showing a man wearing a floral crown wave his arms wildly in celebration as Sam was drafted. Does this not strike anyone as incredibly gratuitous and indulging in stereotype, something Sam would likely not have wanted? This seems similar to broadcasting the drafting of a first black player from a popeyes.

I love analogies that have no possible basis in reality.

so the first QB who gets sacked by Sam will be a historical footnote ?

I sure would hate to get sacked by a gay dude

I'm a Jeff Fisher fan, I think he'll handle this whole thing well. Best thing he can do is let Sam have his press conference, then declare him off limits - or at least no more accessible than any other late round pick on the team. He should push the media away, and instruct Sam to do the same. I hope the kid succeeds.

Can we start a thread with black (attempts at) jokes?

yeah, that's relevant.  outside the lines did a segment on an australian rules football player who came out.  previously he was a madman with the reputation for extreme toughness.  in his own words, that was misplaced anger for living a lie.  after he came out, he came to practice and the guys started cracking jokes about bending over in the shower

it broke the ice and let him know he was accepted and he was laughing.  he is so free now he is an ice dancer

spare us the high horse act

I asked questions. I think if you're going to say something you should be able to explain it. Don't almost say something, be a man and say it.

you need to get something off of your chest.  go for it
