Shaq Evans: The Tape

Villain The Foe

Recommended Posts

Nice size WR at 6 foot 210lbs. A very inconsistent catcher. Doesn't look like a natural catcher. When he does catch the ball he tends to double catch. Has a very muscular build but doesn't get as physical with defenders as his body would lead  you to believe. Half-as_ blocker. He will initially put his hands on you then he'll turn towards the play while keeping one hand extended on the player as if he's waiting for the play to end. In comparison, Jalen Saunders at 5'9 165lbs executes better blocking through relentless effort for the duration of the play. Very good awareness around the sidelines and out of bounds. Knows how to slide his feet, the problem is the double catching which if not fixed will negate many catches in the NFL (watch the Arizona game). Has nice strides when running and is a deep threat. Evans can definitely run the deep route and get behind his man, again, he has to work to consistently catching the football. Doesn't seem to come up with the ball in traffic (watch first play of Virginia Tech game) or when contested. Again, his build would give you the impression otherwise. Has potential, but you will certainly see why he was drafted in the 4th round and not higher.

didn't like him as a PR.  he let one hit the ground he easily could have fielded, then catches one over his shoulder on his own goal line

Yeah, I forgot about that. He's not a very good punt returner, partly because of the inconsistent hands (fumble one), he field another inside the 10 yard line and when he does catch it he isn't elusive enough to really gain ground.

yeah villian his hands can be brutal, but he gets a huge cushion form the DB's, they respect his speed.

True, even when they play off him he finds a way to get behind the defense. If WR coach Sanjay Lal can work with Evans and make something of his hands as well as Evans putting in more effort in the blocking game he could be a solid pick up

We have a good blocker who's taller and faster with bad hands coach Sanjay has been putting in work with.

this guy SUCKS. PERIOD. 1/2 half of the draft a B+  2nd half a D...half these guys aren't even making this team.  He should have used all those picks and moved up.  Doesn't even pick up a decent project QB.  Savage, Murray, McCarron could all have been had.  Even Garrapolo, Bridgewater, Carr or Manziel could have been scooped up.  With a little wheelin and dealin this could have been a draft to remember......
