2014 Jets BIGGEST weakness reference 1 player/1 position group

Kyle Wilson. He and Millner are 1st round corners and should be part of what makes corner a strength. Wilson will continue to disappoint.

The offensive line. 3 out of 5 positions are young, unknown commodities (and none of that youth was taken in the first round, like the cornerback position). The 2 first rounders are our veterans, who haven't looked like their first rounder selves in a couple seasons. Probably because they are surrounded with scrubs. All the investment in offensive players and the maturation of Geno will be moot if this unit is as bad as, or worse than, it has been the past couple years protecting the QB.

Wow.  When you have to pick one you realize that all of the usual suspects have been heavily addressed this off-season and may turn out to be a strength, or they may flop, and the truth is, we don't know yet.

thanks Idzik.

Who are the young unknown commodities?  The opening day starters are Ferguson Winters Mangold Colon and Giacomini.  Winters is the only one you could call young.  Giacomini is 28 with 30+ starts in the NFL who started at RT last playoffs and the super bowl dismantling of the Broncos.  I guess you can pretend Colon isn't coming back and then worry about Dozier or Aboushi, but the guy was already wearing a jersey and riding a bike at minicamp.  They may be weak, but they are not young or unproven except Winters

Ah, I honestly forgot we signed Giacomini lol

I was just trying to come up with something that wasn't "cornerback" and "quarterback".

Nevermind me. I don't sleep.

Punter. If the ground attack stalls we need a big leg to give some cushion to our young secondary. I think we will see 60/40 run with the passing game featuring dump offs and slants. When we stall we will need the kind of killer punter who sets the other team back inside their 20. For now I am convinced Geno and Milliner are for real. Pryor is the second coming of Reed. CJ2K and Ivory gain 2000 total yards. Hill figures it out. I know I am crazy, but these hot humid days do that to me.

Like he did the last month of the season?

I don't judge people by how they play in garbage time with nothing on the line.

Especially vs. a no-account 4-12 Raiders, a no-account 4-12 Browns, and a Dolphins team not as good as their 8-8 record would imply.

We'll see soon enough if Geno's made the leap or not.  Then we finally stop deifying him for average performances in trash-time vs. horrible teams.

Offensive line and it's not even close. It's an average unit on the starting front with zero depth aside from Dozier. One or two injuries and I think that's a wrap on our season because neither QB is good enough to put the offense on his shoulders.

The defensive secondary could be close. There's a load of potential there, but outside of Milliner's final quarter of last season, all it really has is potential.

I would tend to agree with the OL being the weakest link. While there's been a lot of complaints about the lack of attention there this season (I won't name names, lol), that actually gives me a little hope. Makes me think that they think a lot more of guys like Aboushi, Campbell, and Ijalana than we do - or could.

I was speaking in terms of completely crashing an entire side of the ball. If Milliner gets hurt, or Patterson, the entire defense wouldn't collapse because everything revolves around the d-line anyways. An injury to Brick, Giacomini, or Mangold, however, would be way more disastrous for the offense. With how weak we are at quarterback and a completely new group of wide receivers, there isn't any room for mistakes on the line, and we have a lot of room.

There are a couple speckles of hope, sure. We seem to have a lot of faith in Ijalana, and if I had to pick a handful of o-line rookies capable of playing early Dozier would be one of them. But I don't see one sure thing on this line excepting 3 starters, even the guards are suspect.

O-Line is average at best

Linebackers are average. Harris is the def of average. Davis might be one of the worst in the entire league.

Secondary is just bad. Dee was just awful last year. He literally played good for 2 games. Pryor is a rookie who has serious question marks. I've watched a ton of L'ville's games. He has potential but he'll have big time struggles this year. Rest of the secondary is a bandaid.
