...because guys like David Nelson and Stephen Hill are legitimate #2 receivers, amirite? :tumbleweed:

The Jets are not interested in trading for wide reciever Andre Johnson (Dyer, July 14).

Trading for Johnson “is not something we are actively pursuing,” a Jets executive said.

Johnson is quite adamant about getting out of Houston, even talking retirement from the NFL. He is likely going to hold out from Houston unless he gets a raise, or dealt to another team.

“Clearly Andre is a special player, but special players come at a price,” the executive said. “Right now, with the direction the team wants to go, it isn’t the best fit. While he is a tremendous talent, he would hurt a lot of cap flexibility.”

Jets running back Chris Johnson recently exuberantly proclaimed that he would be on board with the Jets making such a move.

We wrote in-depth about the Jets and Johnson just a few days ago (TJB, July 12), so see more there.

In short, Johnson is a certain upgrade to what the Jets depth chart, but the cost in money, draft picks and roster impact seems to be more than the team is willing to take on.

We'll see if Johnson manages to get himself traded, what it costs his new team, and the career he has from there. I'm thinking the Jets are wise to not be interested. Teams who think they're one player away, or are on the last legs of their top end QB (see: Pats, Broncos) make a lot more sense than the Jets.

I think that even if they are interested, acting like they aren't because the cost is too high is exactly the way I would expect Idzik to play it.  He has not been in on the feeding frenzy for anybody except for Decker. Remember when Johnson was being shopped?  The Jets were not exactly the first in line, but they ended up with him.

I don't see why Johnson would want to come here unless it was for a pay day, and that is specifically what we are trying to avoid, so I don't see him as a good fit.

Ok so what would you be willing to give up in a trade jetnation GM's?

no one (assuming some team isnt willing to trade Hill for Jonson, LOL), ,we arent there yet. Build the team to playoff caliber every year material, then fill in holes..

As opposed to Mike Tannenbaum, who if asked of his interest in Andre Johnson would promptly drop his pants and start masturbating furiously and then proceed to trade away next year's entire draft plus our 2016 first rounder, Idzik is playing it close to the vest and not trying to negotiate with the Texans through the media.

What an a$$hole!

Let's not judge Sandy until a few years from now.  I still think the young pitching he's been assembling can really set this team up for years to come.  Of course, I could be wrong but let's see how it all shakes out.

You make that sound like a bad thing.

I am not worried about the pick as much as I would worry about the contract.  I think he is looking for another pay day and I don't want to be it.  I would not really flinch even at $10M per with nothing guaranteed, (basically taking over this deal). but I would start getting worried at redoing the deal and having a ton of guaranteed money.

I never saw this happening, Johnson is older and Idzik is looking to get younger. Idzik is looking to keep the salary cap lower so that he can pay the young guys if they pan out and Andre Johnson has a bloated contract. I don't think Idzik wanted to replace Santonio Holmes' contract, because that was what this would have been. I'm not saying Johnson is Holmes, far from it, but I don't think Idzik wanted another one of those types of contracts on the books.

Yes

who the hell knows..if he is totally healthy, aka, dominos fall as he or decker get doubled and open things up.

In NFL its all about the Double..kerley or amaro opened up in seam w/LB or safety coverage makes us better.

Critical question: would Andre Johnson make us an instant contender?

I think it would help them immensely.

Make him the #1 WR with Decker at 2 and Kerley at 3 and the Jets suddenly have a real nice arsenal of weapons at their disposal.

I don't know how many years are left on his deal but the Jets should be VERY INTERESTED.

How many young WRs are on the roster? Let's not forget, this is a team in rebuild. Bringing in a vet who will almost certainly not be part of the future to displace young talent that needs to be evaluated makes just about no sense, unless your name is Mike Tannenbaum or Daniel Snyder. Thank you for making the right decision, Idzik.

How many good young WRs are on the roster? That's the more important question.

It's an unknown and if we let a good one go in order to sign a player who is in the sunset of his career, it would be a huge mistake. Unless I'm missing something, it's hard to see this year's team making a deep playoff run, with or without Johnson. Let's see who the keepers are.

They brought in two free agents and drafted three more, in addition to Kerley, Nelson, and Hill. They certainly have some talent to evaluate.

Did you really like the way Tannenbaum did business better?
