lol, where are the people who ripped failing to close the deal on him?

Couple of people here said it would be a great pickup or that it would be a better move than signing Chris Johnson was. I forget who now.

Retires in July.  Two days before training camp starts.

Think we offered him the possibility of more if he made it through the season and was productive, but with nothing guaranteed or something. I forget now exactly what it was, but it was nothing that was going to preclude us from taking any WRs at any point in the draft.  But Seattle gave him $150K to sign for 3 months. Guess Idzik wasn't doing that again after the Jets got burned for $100K on Garrard, who retired in freaking May last year.

Ford signing (1 year $740K and $65K was signing bonus) > Rice signing for $1.4M with Seattle with $150K of it signing bonus

Has nothing to do with pissing on Seattle. More like I'm just glad we not only avoided one of these, but that we got to see the positive reward of this lack of "closing the deal" and got to see it so quickly.

I wish him nothing but the best in retirement.  It's gotta be hard being a wide receiver with the last name "rice" and not being named Jerry.

Sure, and with plenty of money, he's probably doing the right thing with all those concussions & knee injuries under his belt.

And welcome back.

Amazing that Pete Carroll ever won a game with that sh*t hand he was dealt. #weppinz

What sh*t hand? The sh*t hand of landing an emotionally mature, stud QB who was good to great even as a rookie, to bail him out of starting Matt Flynn after back to back 7-9 seasons?

QB is totally the least important position to get lucky on.  Wilson at $600K/year is the same thing as Mark Sanchez at $10M/year. Not much difference in skill or roster flexibility.

Good call.
