Darrelle Revis admits he wanted a NY Jets reunion, but new Patriots cornerback says there are no hard feelings  After the Bucs cut him in March, Revis had his agent reach out to the Jets to initiate a reunion: The Jets were not interested and he signed with the New England Patriots.

  • FOXBOROUGH — It’s been four months now, and he is all-in with the Patriots, but only because Darrelle Revis was rejected in his attempt to return to the Jets.

Even though it is hard to get used to seeing Revis wearing Patriots colors — it's been an adjustment for him, too — he admitted to the Daily News on Friday that after the Bucs cut him in March, he had his agent reach out to the Jets to initiate a reunion: The Jets were not interested and Revis signed with New England.

Sources told the Daily News in March that Revis' first choice was to come back to the Jets.

"You know, that was a possibility," Revis said after doing a group interview Friday at the Patriots’ training camp.

Revis insisted, however, that he wasn’t disappointed that the Jets had no interest in bringing him back.?

"I wasn't disappointed about that," he said.

Revis also said he didn’t think his long, bitter holdouts in 2007 and 2010 made a return to the Jets less than feasible.

"It really doesn't matter," he said. "It's an organization. They are going to run it how they want to run it and choose who they want to choose. There's no hard feelings. You got to move on."

Ultimately, there were about 20 teams that had some degree of interest in Revis. New England had the best package: $12 million for 2014, a chance to play with Tom Brady and a legitimate opportunity for Revis to get to his first Super Bowl. Because New England will not pick up his $20 million option for 2015, Revis will be in position to be a free agent again.

What's not to like about that deal?

"I just wanted to pick the best situation for me," he said. "I felt New England was the best situation for me."

Revis has transitioned to the other side of the most bitter rivalry in the NFL. When you're a Jet, you hate the Patriots. When you're a Patriot, you hate the Jets.

"I know it's a rivalry. My focus is to just go out there and play," he said. "I'm not trying to get back at anybody. It is what it is. New York was great to me during the time I was there. You got to move on. Tampa was great for me when I was in Tampa for the year. Now New England is being great to me as well."

During the group interview, Revis said the fans at Patriots camp — they get about 8,000 per day — have been "awesome" to him, but "it's been kind of weird in a way. I'm a Patriot now. That's how things go. You just got to roll with it. They accepted me."

He was asked why is has been weird, and laughed, saying: "Because I was on the other side with another team — with a rival. But I'm here now."

Revis tore his ACL in the Jets third game of the 2012 season. Although he played in every game for Tampa last year, he says he never felt right. Now, he says, he's in the best shape of his career and his left knee feels as good as it did before he tore the ACL.

"They say it takes a year and a half or two. I think I'm at a point now where I'm there. I'm back to where I can move around a little bit better," he said. "Last year was really tough coming off the injury, even though I played in all 16 games. But it was just tough. I wasn't where I needed to be. Now I'm a little bit more excited. I feel butterflies more. I'm just ready."

Last offseason, he was rehabbing, this year, he was working out. If he's back to being the Revis of old, then the Patriots got themselves the best cornerback in the league.

Revis quickly has become a team leader. He works out in Phoenix in the offseason and had several of his teammates come join him. He has been accepted by the players and has been building a strong relationship with Bill Belichick. He says he is glad he and Brady will "have the same color jersey on Sunday. It's awesome."

Two years ago, he called Belichick a jerk. Now they are best buds.

"Our relationship is great," Revis said. "We communicate well. Bill is open to anything. Being on the other side, you look at him totally different. But being here, he's open to anything and our friendship is great."

Belichick calls all the shots with the Patriots. He wanted Revis and got him signed. Rex Ryan very much wanted to bring Revis back, but he doesn't have final say. "He's the head coach. That's his title," Revis said of Ryan.

Revis attempted to dismiss the mental adjustment from switching sides in the rivalry by saying, "It doesn't matter what color you got on. I always look at it as long as I'm playing the game that I love, it really doesn't matter. I was on that side. You're not supposed to like your rival no matter where you play. I'm here now. All that is in the past. Right now, I'm a Patriot. I'm excited to be here."

He wanted to be a Jet again. There's always next year.

cimini disputed mehta's original article, said revis' camp was just trying to embarass the jets

here is the actual quote

"You know, that was a possibility,"

he was trying to use the jets as a stalking horse to drive up the bids for where he really wanted to go

I like Revis, and I get why he wanted to get paid, and don't blame him at all for following the money.

It's obvious now that Revis loves the spotlight (almost as much as money). New York has the biggest spotlight. He's trying to get back in, but you can't really do that unless you're here. And with Rex as head coach, Revis got even more attention than he'd get anywhere (especially in New England where, whoever you are, you're not Tom Brady or Bill Belichick).

In other words, it's Mehta's typical (not to mention, obsessive) shot at Idzik.

Also how does someone say he instructed his agent to immediately reach out to the Jets, and then when the Jets show no interest, he says he's not disappointed? How does that make any sense?

In all seriousness, IF the Jets are 1 player away from possibly competing for a Super Bowl next year, and it happens to be at CB because of all the maybes the Jets have at CB this year don't pan out do we look to sign him next offseason when the Pats don't pick up the 20 million option, and make him a FA?

it makes no sense.  There is a 0% chance he made a list of places to play, and the jets were #1 as his camp claims.  0%

I think he was shocked idzik didn't fall all over himself bidding for him, with rex looking over his shoulder drooling on his keyboard

the past* are a good spot for him, "old QB with a shrinking window in a win now or face reality with a scrub QB" desperation mode

Revis like his uncle measure success in dollars. There is nothing wrong with that, but there are parts of the media and many fans that will jump ugly for saying that. We don't want to admit that we often root for laundry. And players don't want to burn any bridges for what ever comes later or after their careers.

Why he refuses to admit that is a mystery. And it's a total lie. He and everyone knew his pricetag made any such reunion impossible. And why any reporter would transcribe this nonsense into a plausible story without any discussion of his salary demands in beyond understanding. May be in the back of his mind he wants to keep the Jets in play sometime in the future when he next goes out on the market next...and again and agin probably. And who knows; there may be a season when it makes sense for both parties.

I thought he said no hard feelings ?

He wanted to return to the Jets so badly that he signed with New England within an hour of his release. So badly.

If the Jets turned him down what's wrong with him signing with a team that now with him and Browner are quite possibly front runners for a SB appearance ? Within an hour ? everyone knew what TB was going to do ..... We still have how many million under the cap ? Would have been nice to see Revis work with Milliner but you know we have so many studs at the CB position who needs Revis ? Right ? Would have been nice to see Revis and Milliner with Wilson in the slot Pryor & Allen at S

The point is, if Revis's goal was to be a Jet again, it is very unlikely that he would have had a deal done with the Pats so quickly.

So, the overarching point is, Revis's priority/desire was not to be a Jet.

Everything else you said is irrelevant.

This time next year he is 30. He can't be demanding near what he has been getting. Plus, lets see how it pans out for him in New England.

This is something we are going to see more and more of.  Mevi$ isn't exactly aging like Darrel Green.

Highlight? Reeling in Welker who broke free. Lowlight, Moss making him look like he was standing still.. and Revis grabbing his hammy.

He just tried to use the Jets to up his value, and poke them a Little.

B-I-N-G-O

He wanted our price so he could go back to NE with that price, in case it was higher than NE's offer.

20 teams showed interest? Seems like a lot, considering he signed pretty much immediately. How could an agent have serious discussions with 20 interested parties and have a signed deal with one of them, including all contract terms, within a day?

Answer: he wanted to go to New England unless someone else mindlessly offered him $16M again. Playing for a sure-thing contender, like New England, he could probably rationalize taking even a couple million less this season as an investment to bring his dollars back to that level after 2014.

Well then if he reached out to the Jets right away and was told it would not happens by Idzik then I guess the guy and his agent took the next step... no matter how fast it happened does it ?

Trying to make a point to you is useless. You're right. Revis wanted nothing more than to be a Jet. While you're at it, Sanchez made 3 good throws in training camp so you were right there too.
