But it was second hand smoke!!!!! Yea ok. I'm glad he enjoys drugs more than making $10 million a year...seems like a solid life decision. This guys has not gone a full year without a drug incident since junior high and he still became the best WR in the NFL. Imagine if this guy could get his s**t together.

These guys can beat their wives, drink and drive, get into fights, carry weapons, cheat...whatever.  But smoke weed and you're done.  Unreal.

Meanwhile, whats going on with Irsay?

Yea but that's not the real issue:

the real issue is this - you can have either a) fame, glory and wealth or B) smoke weed.

If you choose B) - you have a real problem which is what this guy has.

No, the real issue is, that weed is harmless and you're suspending someone for a year for doing it but its totally acceptable to knock your fiance out and drag her across a casino floor unconscious on video for the world to see.

It's a ******* abortion that smoking pot is significantly worse than uppercutting a woman.

Hell, fertility drugs are also worse than uppercutting a woman.

NFL is a complete joke in this regard.

Not to mention that had they tested his "B" sample first (meaning had the sample randomly marked "B" been randomly marked "A" instead) he wouldn't have tested positive period because there wasn't enough in his system to ding positive.

Not to mention that the NFL's threshold for testing positive for weed requires about one tenth the amount the World Anti-Doping Agency suggests.

These guys are getting pumped subscription meds by their teams, like candy.  Pumped to the point they get addicted and ruin the lives.  And thats cool.

Smoking some harmless dope, unacceptable.

It's completely ass backwards.

Ray Rice getting suspended two games is a joke for what he did. But comparing him to Gordon is unfair because the guy is a complete idiot and this was Rice's first run in with the law. Gordon however has been in trouble multiple times and has had a drug incident every year since he was in the 8th grade. Gordon was already suspended last year and this is essentially his third strike. At least Ray Rice was a man and had two press conferences and apologized. In his second press conference he seemed sincere in his apology and realized he made a humongous mistake. If he does it again then he should be treated as Gordon is being treated now. I'm not saying it is ok, but at least he manned up to it. Gordon on the otherhand has been a complete s**thead and continues to smoke and get DUIs. And I agree that fact that weed will cost this guy his season and probably millions of dollars is ridiculous, but to me it is more ridiculous that he can't give up smoking.

Weed will be legal at some point, I'm sure, but to me this is an issue of Gordon being a complete idiot and not being a big enough adult to not break the rule of his employer. The NFL is still a private employer, so they can make their own rules. Just like the rest of us who maintain a job we have to follow the rules to keep our job no matter how stupid we might think the rule is.

There is no argument that Josh Gordon's an idiot.  And I agree, grow up, let it go for a bit, you've got an incredible opportunity ahead of you.

I'm just frustrated with the NFL.  Its becoming a complete joke.  Half the retired players are addicted to scrips that the league fed them and thats cool but smoking dope is career ender?  Thats hypocrisy at its finest.

I would go out and buy a Josh Gordon jersey tomorrow if he went in front of the media and said something along the lines of:

"I apologize to my family, my team, and all of the Cleveland Browns fans.  I regret wholeheartedly having used marijuana.  It was a poor decision and it hurt myself and my team.  In hindsight, I wish I had only beaten the sh*t out of my girlfriend, as I could quickly return and focus on what's important, winning football games."

You forgot the whole "...in life, you will get knocked down" part of the speech.

We have Kenrick Ellis who Pettine might want along with a draft pick.

Imagine our offense with Gordon #1 WR and Decker #2

Browns coach Mike Pettine criticized Josh Gordon's effort in Monday's preseason game.

Gordon noticeably loafed on two targets against the Redskins. "There were a couple plays where I think ... that we would have definitely wanted better effort," Pettine said. "We would want regular season effort to match preseason effort." It's a convenient excuse, but it's quite possible Gordon's impending suspension is weighing on him. His appeal will supposedly be decided before the end of the week.

Stupid is as stupid does. Guy is suspended for the ENTIRE season - regardless of who he plays for, but yeah let's give up quality D-Line depth for a guy who can't even request permission to play again until next preseason.

nah. no amount of pot on any number of occasions is as serious as KOing your wife/fiance/girlfriend.

Gordon may deserve the year because it's his third offense. Rice deserves a year the first time because it's a way more serious offense.

I wouldn't piss in either of their mouths if their stomachs were on fire.

Or they could just stop testing for it in the first place.

NFL should yield discipline to the organizations imo. At the end of the day, no one cares what these guys do during their personal lives as long as they're helping their team win and or fantasy team. Nor should we really care anyways. Let the teams discipline their own guys, not the league.

I don't think any of them should. There are so many off-field indiscretions a person can make. This is merely one of them.

At the same time, I do agree completely that Gordon is a complete f*cking moron. here are employers from coast to coast that have drug-free rules. One doesn't have to work there if one doesn't want, even if it's the best paying job one can get. Same with Gordon. There are other jobs he could get, like cleaning up public restrooms, where no one cares if he's stoned off his rocker and there's no pressure or worries about job performance. Those jobs pay a bit less than superstar WR, but the choice is his.
