Jalen Saunders Situation

Jalen Saunders

New York Jets rookie receiver Jalen Saunders was injured in a car accident on August 15, as reported by Brian Costello:

The events leading up to the crash are still mysterious. All that is known for sure is that Saunders suffered from some type of “medical incident“, as reported by NBC Sports, before crashing his vehicle. The details are still foggy.

The Jets can only hope that Saunders, who was expected to be the team’s punt returner, can make his way back onto to field quickly. Wide receiver was one of New York’s weakest positions last year, and, despite adding players like Eric Decker and Jacoby Ford during free agency, they still need a lot of help. By recently placing rookie Shaq Evans on injured reserve earlier this week the Jets have added to the urgency of this situation. They need Saunders back. And fast.

There is not a wealth of information regarding this topic, as the Jets and head coach Rex Ryan have been very reserved when discussing this issue.

For Jet fans everywhere, let’s hope Saunders return comes sooner, rather than later.

Amaro

Too bad Idzik didn't anticipate Saunders' health concern. Figures...leave it to the Jets...

The wide receiver Draft was very deep, our net return regardless of any unfortunate issues they had is very poor. I like Idzik but he blow it when he did not move up in the draft, he sat and picked a ton of Jags or Burger flippers. We had plenty of ammo but did not use it.

yeah that kid that the colts got in the 3rd  Moncrief we should have jump on him and move back to the 3rd and get that cb that is now on the IR. Moncrief is going to be very good. the WRs we drafted im not happy with any of them

While it certainly doesn't look to provide immediate dividends, there's absolutely no way you can write off a WR draft class before the first regular season even starts. I mean sweet Jesus. Evans actually has talent and I wouldn't be surprised to see Enunwa step up at some point. Give it time.

what if you move up, and the player gets injured ?  sucks

wait we are saying that what this team needed was WRs  there was a good one when our turn came in the 3rd rnd we passed on him so we did not draft well on that position, so it was bad strategy.i think we could have gotten that WR with our 3rd and move back in the 3rd and gotten that CB we drafted. that's my point

he drafted 3 WR's.  that is a reasonable strategy.  you are arguing against the results

I'm not particuarly impressed with what we did long-term at WR with the 3 we did pick injuries or not. I'm okay with taking a flyer on a guy like Enunwa since he's raw but has upside but I think Evans and Saunders have limited upsides and I think that it's really a disappointment they ended up with the guys they picked in a draft class that was ultra deep at WR.

look this is just my opinion we drafted guys that are not that good at WR there was a good one and we passed on him wich looks like he will be the colts #3 and in a year will be the #2 or 1 the guys we drafted by the looks of it wont make the team we could gotten Mcdougal  with a low 3rd that's my opinion we drafted 3 guys that wont be here long and we passed on a guy that is going to be very good, I feel that we just wasted 3 pics.

He isn't even the best one we passed on, John Brown from Pitt St. who the Jets brought in for a workout was lighting up the Cardinals camp, nobody could cover him Cro, Patterson, or Honey Badger, he tweaked a hamstring first week of August, and haven't heard much about him since, but he will be their 3rd WR this year I believe, and can be a good bet to break out. Arizona took him with their 3rd rounder a few picks after the Jets took McDougle.

so others teams picks are sure fire "going to be good" picks, the jets picks are wasted ?

and you know all this 3 weeks into their NFL careers ?

sh*t, maybe you should be the GM

If Amaro can consistently get open down the middle of the field it won't matter.

Saunders was a silly pick though.

Saunders is looking like the best pick in the middle of the draft for them. So many others won't even be on the team.

in a draft considered very deep at receiver only the jets could fail at drafting one

Actually the best WR they drafted potential wise is Enunwa. He still might be a player.

I just think the JETS fudged up their draft for the 3 picks they had in the 3rd and the 4th round even though MacDougal looked like a player.

I am not sure on what basis you say that. Haven't heard  much about Saunders since they put the pads on in training camp.

Yes. That is how bad some of those other picks are looking right now. Sometimes you can pass people while you are in neutral. :)

What's silly about it?

4th rounder on a PR is almost as bad as drafting a fullback or kicker. Too many more versatile players available at that point. And with the space we had, signing a guy to be the return specialist would have been ideal imo.

You really think that Idzik and the Staff drafted him with the top 4th pick as a just a Punt Returner? That's silly....
