JetNation Posted August 23, 2014 Share Posted August 23, 2014 Jets vs. Giants Preseason Game 3: Winners & Losers Winners: Geno Smith: It was easily Geno Smith’s best outing of the preseason, not that that’s saying much. Still, you have to like this level of command and composure from the 2nd year quarterback. Geno finished 9 of 14 for 137 yards and a touchdown, and didn’t turn the ball over. The Defensive Line: For the first time all preseason, the defensive line looked phenomenal. They applied pressure well and stuffed the run. Jace Amaro: Despite struggling this offseason to adjust to the playbook, the rookie tight end out of Texas Tech looks ready to push for a starting role. Losers: Ryan Quigley: 2 consecutive punts of less than 30 yards must have been embarrassing to the young man. The Jets should have a rotating door at the punter position until they find his replacement. Secondary Depth: Another member of the Jets secondary went down tonight. This time, it was Antonio Allen. Allen suffered a head injury and it was not immediately clear how this will impact the Jets secondary moving forward, but you would be right to be concerned. And Wilson should be in the loser section for doing his stupid celebebration slam my chest after an obvious pass interference, where he was about 3 seconds too early. It did not seem that Geno had to hurry and that let him step into his throws. I only really remember the Winters hold. Did not like the way Vick looked at all, though that might just be because I am pissed at the way he put the ball on the floor. Hill and Gates did what they have been doing, as in not much. Nelson also looked eh. Amaro looked better. Seemed like they look for Sudfeld and kept barely missing. That might mean that they like him in practice, or that he just can't get it done. The they I meant was the QBs, not the coaches. Ford seems to have taken a step back on the depth chart. Hakim was being used as a gunner and kick returner. I am not sure if there is any significance to that. Babin looked good rushing the passer against the ones. In the second half he was giving it up against the run again. He sure does not seem to like standing up the T and setting the edge. He's not lighter than Pace, so I it is more likely just technique and desire. Still a 3rd down pass rush specialist IMO. In the 2nd half they played him with Ellis and Barnes and he still got run over. I'm not sure why Barnes was on with Ellis, but I guess he might be a swing backup. Some of you guys were talking him up, but I did not see much one way or the other. Coples made some plays. Allen looked fine at CB from what I saw. Hopefully this will be a less than a week thing. Davis really gonged him. Kerley still fair catching. The OLine was much improved. They seem to take the attitude they had last week and applied much better concentration to it. Gone were all the mental mistakes. Winters is still a concern but everyone seems to be saying he is improved this year. Hopefully that proves to be true! pointman Posted August 24, 2014 Share Posted August 24, 2014 Our O Line gets too much crap. In a league where losers like the Giants have holes all over.. I think our guys make holes for our running backs, and protect long enough for our QB. I am not terribly worried with our front five as long as we never have to test the depth.
