Geno Smith progressing ...

Geno has looked very good in the pocket. He is now stepping into his throws rather than throwing off the back foot and he has quickened up his release.

These are some of the things I was critical on Geno about. Its very impressive that he has corrected some of his mechanic issues because they are very hard to fix . Part of that could be that he's more comfortable in the offense and that's also a good sign.

The big question is will he revert back under pressure ? Pressure usually brings out some of those bad habits. If Geno keeps his cool and does not try to push the issue I think he will continue to improve but only time and the regular season will tell.

If Geno goes so will the Jets go, we need Geno to succeed. If that backfield of Johnson Ivory and Powell gets it going it will only take that much more pressure off Geno and limit mistakes and give him the luxury to progress at a good rate. We seemed to run well on the Giants and the check downs worked really well. looks promising compared to the first 2 preseason games

Go Jets !!!

I love how he's progressed. You can just see him going through progressions, and its not just to the second option either. Really never saw that last year.

But to me the best thing is his pocket presence. He step ups, avoids rushes, and continues plays that seem doomed. To me thats so frustrating for a defense when they think they have you and the offense makes a play anyway. This is opposed to samchez who seemed to find sacks. I always felt like he had no awareness of the pocket and would literally walk into a sack.

Nice post pighead.  No matter how good Geno does it's not going to be enough until we can find some DB's.  We are going to need 30 points a game out of the offense if we don;t somehow fix that secondary.

Good post.

I think his pocket presence is night and day above where it was last year.

I'm thinking of getting banned again would porn or just a bunch of political posts be the better route. Stoic, which do you think it better?

Why?  I think you are a really good poster, don't do it!

Maybe a anti porn political post will do the trick.

Back on topic, Geno was drafted as a project and got throwm into the fire last year. Saw about what I expected from a rookie project. He should look better and progress a little each week this year.

Just got done watching the replay. Two things stood out regarding Geno:

1) His first step when feeling pressure was up into the pocket, not to the left or right like last year.

2) He is definitely stepping into his throws, but more importantly, it looks like his stride is much shorter. Long strides cause the ball to sail resulting in overthrows.

Totally agree. I think Brian Winters will have the final say on Geno stepping up into the pocket. But hopefully it continues, the Jets line is going to have some issues so being able to keep plays alive will be huge.

The pass he threw to Decker in the end zone (that was broken up) was a great pass that he couldn't make last year. he looked a lot better last night than he did at any time last year.

I thought the lob to Sudfeld in the end zone was a nice pass as well. Sudfeld left his feet too early imo. But it was thrown where only Sudfeld could catch it.

Yes, and he had a lot of pressure on him on that play. he looked pretty good.

I think he'll be alright this season. Not good but decent at least, better than last season. In the long run, yeah, he might be good.

I'm not sure about his delivery, though.
