It was a solid week with the whole "Mallett is going to upend the draft" thing. It's actually pretty impressive that he got a conditional 7th out of it considering the Garappolo pick was clearly a vote of no confidence.

I simultaneously overestimated and underestimated how desperate Houston was. O'Brien is gonna sit and wait on Hackenberg.

He was a 3rd round pick and Brady's backup for the last 3 years.

It's not like the Pats traded up in the 2nd round for a WR that is out of the league in 2 years.

True, definitely a way for a GM to make a name for himself.  Pick up back-ups in the 3rd rd to trade away a few years down the line for  a 7th.  You're a good spinster, but even this can't be defended.  I mean, other than the fact that TB will make it a moot point...on paper it's a total disaster though.

For those who don't click links, or get the brilliance of my above post, here's an excerpt:

The Patriots traded (a third round pick) to move up 16 slots in the 2nd round to draft Chad Jackson, a WR who played for the Patriots for two seasons before fizzling out of the league the following year.

(It's funny cause PatsFanTX said, "It's not like the PAtriots...blah blah blah blhah balbuouhslkuhjalj ")

pronounced, due-shh.

Nope, not for Mallet. They saved that move for Jackson.

Wait, what? Hill has 600 receiving yards in 2 yrs n he is not out of the league. Mallet attempted 6 passes in 3 yrs and only gained a 7th rounder in a trade. QBs with 3 yrs exp that fetch a 7th round pick (2yrs down the line) usually are a failure. And Pats fans need to be the last fans in the NFL to brag about the draft. One home run in 14 yrs and that one pick is carrying the entire team.

Do u wanna talk about all the failed picks the genius or are we done with that argument? Cuz the list is pretty long.

wait it gets better

now after sheldon rips through their shiny new LG and breaks brady's vagina, that back up will be a rookie !!!

lololololol

I really don't want the Jets to injure another Patriots QB.  The last time that happened,  Brady and the Pats took control and have owned the AFC East ever since.  And that was a long time ago.

A CONDITIONAL 7th rounder TWO yrs down the road. How can anyone lowball further than that? Offer a 7th rounder 3 yrs down the road?

A conditional 6th if Mallet reaches certain playing time numbers.

BB took a gamble that didn't pay off. Mallet never looked comfortable in pre season which made him a hard sell. Having Mallets roster spot is more important right now so NE doesn't lose a player like Maclom Butler or Tyms.

Oh, a conditional 6th. That's so much better than the 7th. BB can sleep better at night now, knowing he has a 6th rounder coming his way in 2 yrs.

What is the purpose of draft picks?

To build a football team to WIN games.

Over the last 10 years, no team in the NFL has won more regular and post-season games than the Patriots.

the purpose of the moves was to save money

is BB getting cute by trading a pass protector and a back up QB ?

Mankins was the highest paid guard in the NFL last year. He certainly did not play like one.

Did it hurt the Pats when they unloaded Lawyer Milloy, Ty Law, Asante Samuel, Willie McGinist and Richard Seymour?
