Jets 53-man roster, position-by-position: How it looks after all of the weekend's transactions

With Labor Day weekend complete, the Jets are fast approaching Sunday's regular season opener against the Raiders.

It was a busy weekend, transaction-wise, for the Jets. Saturday brought most of their cuts, as they trimmed their active roster from 75 players to 53.

Sunday and Monday brought a few waiver claims, some more cuts, and the formation of a practice squad, which now numbers eight players, leaving two more spots open. (Don't be surprised if they are soon filled by two rookies who were released over the weekend: linebacker Jeremiah George and wide receiver Quincy Enunwa.)

On Saturday evening, we brought you a complete analysis of the Jets' 53-man roster. Obviously, some things have changed since then.

The Jets claimed cornerback Leon McFadden, cornerback Phillip Adams and wide receiver Walter Powell off waivers. To make room for those players, the Jets cut cornerback LeQuan Lewis, Enunwa and George. The Jets also cut cornerback Ellis Lankster and brought back linebacker A.J. Edds, who was cut Saturday. Here is a good explanation from Dom Cosentino about why the Jets made the Lankster-Edds swap.

OK, so after all that, what does the Jets' position-by-position 53-man roster look like? Funny you should ask. Here is what it looks like.

Note that, after all of the additional cuts and acquisitions, following Saturday's cuts, the Jets still have the same number of players at each position on their 53-man active roster. They essentially swapped a receiver for a receiver (Powell/Enunwa), two cornerbacks for two cornerbacks (McFadden and Adams/Lankster and Lewis) and a linebacker for a linebacker (Edds/George).

A lot of people said the Jets would keep 4 RBs and a FB but I never thought that would happen. I can't remember the Jets having a better situation 1 - 3 at RB. And Tommy Bohanon I think is going to catch some passes this year. I like that kid.

I hope you're right.  Given his production in college, I expected him to catch a lot more passes last year than he did.  I hope MM finds a way to get as many players involved as possible.
