I saw progress

Remember, this season is all about progress and the development of our youth. The fact that we're rolling over our cap space into next year proves that much. We should all be realistic and keep an eye on the development of our team as opposed to the standings.  Not saying it's impossible to make the playoffs, but I think we all understand the we're not a Superbowl contender.

I actually came away from yesterday's game with hope. I saw that fourth quarter as invaluable experience points for Geno Smith that can never be duplicated. Hostile environment, down 7 points on the road, time ticking away, best receiver out of the game, non existent running game and yet Geno still got the ball in the endzone! Of course, timeoutgate killed it. But then, Geno actually converted on 4th down two plays in a row.

Here's the progress: last year, there was no chance we gave any fight to a team like the Packers on their home field.  This year, we were a blown time out call from the referee away from potentially taking them to OT.

Growth.  Progress.  Clutch execution despite the odds.

I do agree with most of this.  But Marty calling that timeout is a pretty miserable situation.  Geno is in his second year, spent most of his off season hearing how he is was the worst QB in the NFL.  He plays a pretty good game minus the interception, yet that was more the hit than anything else.  He gets his shot to tie the game, throws a really nice pass for a touchdown and learns nothing from it except his OC does not believe in him.

Agree Decker missed a few good passes yesterday. Geno looks like the real deal.

I can't even fault Geno for the pick yesterday. He got hit as he threw. We've seen it happen to much better QBs over the years many, many times. That was more a bad break than a bad performance from Geno.

Neither was I.  That was his most serious miscue, really not much one can do when they are throwing get his and the ball gets the flutters.  He played a pretty solid game and brought his team back to tie it up.  Until Marty showed his lack of belief in him and called a seriously boneheaded timeout.

I saw that we finally have a decent offense.  Secondary and Coaching lost this game.  That timeout was bull.  Marty F'd that one up bad.  It was clear to me that Milliner was not ready to play.  Allen and Walls were getting tested but Milliner got burned.

Good thread. Overall, even though we lost we saw what a competent Jets O could look like. 3 for 3 with TDs in the first three series. Damn that was great. Now, Geno has marketedly improved...even his INTs..

First INT in the Oakland game was an amazing effort by  Woodson...most CB's just knock it away. A Great effort to INT...

Second INT, Geno is hit as he releases the ball. HIT AS HE RELEASES THE BALL. He was not really at fault.

On the fumble he lost in the first game, he should have slid but you see that he is sliding more.

Geno has vastly improved over last year. That is good to see and a positive outcome out of the first two games.

Geno faded after halftime (which roughly coincides with Decker going out), but overall he looked pretty good. As much of a ****tastrophe as the TO play was, it's encouraging that he's capable of rising up and making that throw in that spot.

As bad as the OL was yesterday, one thing it did show was that he's not as skittish when protection breaks down anymore. So we got that going for us.

His pocket presence and movement is worlds better than last season. The footwork is improved too, but still a work in progress. If he sets his feet on the deep throw to Decker, it's a walk-in TD.

We dominated the first 20 minutes and looked pretty damn good the next 8. That's almost half the game.

Then the bottom fell out -  but if not for a very questionable Ref gaff we were positioned to go into OT.

Teams that are good at this game consistently are good because they can understand whats going on and make adjustments that turn bad things around  - on both sides of the ball.

Green Bay adjusted and we got exposed.

We're not that far away from having a good to very good football team.

I agree and I find it kind of ironic that in both games this year, we have seen both the best of the Jets and the worst of the jets.  The first game was total domination on both sides of the line of scrimmage, but stupid mistakes keeping the game close.  This game we looked like a contender for about 28 minutes and then self destructed over the final 32.

I still dont know what we have this season.  The potential for double digit wins is there, but so is the potential for double digit losses.  Its still early, and I want to try to stay optimistic, but there is a lot that needs to be cleaned up.  We have seen how good this team can be, but we have also seen how bad this team can be if they keep self-destructing.  Its still early, and I want to try to stay optimistic, but there is a lot that needs to be cleaned up.

I'm all about how you play under the lights. End of the day he had a brilliant tying TD taken away from him by his teammate and his coach, and then he went out and still converted the fourth. Not bad at all.

Agreed.  For all the moaning and groaning going on they played well and are much better than last season.

In the 4th quarter, the D forced two 3 and outs giving the offense another chance to tie the game.  Which they did, but didnt.  Just a bizarre game.  But I'm encouraged.  If they can put 4 quarters together, they're going to be really hard to beat.

Geno's looked good this season for the most part, and that is reeeeeeeeally all that matters right now. That timeout was annoying and ridiculous, but the one still bothering me today is Decker wide open over the middle...and I  blame that one on Decker. The throw was there, the effort on Decker's part came too little too late.

why couldn't this team be a super bowl contender?     I watched the same game yesterday with a totally different opinion.   If the Jets had Vontae Davis or Aqib Talib starting at CB instead of 21M of unused cap space they walk out of GB with a 'W'.

If Vontae Davis was starting at CB, they probably win, yes.  Not sure they'd be good enough to be a legit SB contender, though.  In a year, though?  Yes.

Geno looks legit. Aside from the infuriating RZ turnovers(wasnt on him yesterday) I think he's further a long in the offense than his receivers are.

Cumberland blows. Guys arent finishing their routes....Decker has to catch that bomb yesterday too.

Yeah.  Decker is so much better than the other WRs it isn't even funny and he still missed what seemed to be a very catchable bomb (he seemed to let up and then try to run back under it) and did not come back on another pass that ended up defensed, but should have been a catch or PI.

Looked like he lost his feet out of his break a bit on that play.  Could have been better placed but that was definitely a missed opportunity.  Geno was missing in the 2nd half.  Shame too.  He was on fire in the first.

Kerley looked like he was getting his jersey grabbed on almost every route.  Never got the call.

The Jets lost their best defensive player and their best offensive player yesterday and still had a chance to tie that game up in the 4th when the Jets D forced two 3 and outs giving the offense a couple of extra tries.  Sucks.  Crazy F'ing game with a lot of wild sh*t going on.

This went on all game for several Jets. Nobody gives a sh*t. I'm going to focus more on how Wilkerson smiled and hope he loses dollars on that already-set-to-be-team-friendly extension after 2016.

Hindsight is 50/50 Because he threw a ball up in double coverage and Kerley made a great play it looks awful. If that fell incomplete which 9/10 times it would of we would be thanking Marty. Just sucks it was the perfect throw and catch this time.

The jets dominated the game. It's hard to blame Geno for the pick. I'm blaming the play call to a certain extent. I loved the were going for the jugular and going for the 28-9 halftime score. But a couple runs to start that drive would if been great to kill the clock. Still the going for the jugular part gets me excited seeing them have trust in the team and not just sit on the lead.

Going into halftime up 24-9 as opposed to 21-16 would of been great though.

Somone on another board posted the overthrow to Cumberland during the Raiders game from the All 22 cam. Cumberland was running half speed. If he's sprinting its a TD.

We desperately need a deep threat. Geno has the arm.

The progress is definitely there. We can all see it with Geno. It sucks it went down like it did at the end. But I'm sure after 3 weeks we all would take 2-1. So no need to panic yet. 4-4 after the first half was always the goal. But seeing KC Pitt Chi Detroit all lose like they have so far gives me hope we can play with anyone. A few bounces here or there and we beat these teams.

Besides Denver and Seattle I think we can compete with anyone really on our schedule this year.
