BlakeSpenceBlockedPunt
Forget the rest of the team and coaches. Let's focus only on Geno because without a professional-grade, quality QB you simply do not have a chance in this league. I can genuinely say that based upon what I've seen thus far I believe he has the chance to be very, very good. I think he can be better than Vinny was for us and better than Chad was for us...which is to say he can be the best QB we've had for quite some time. What has me this optimistic is he seems to actually be learning from his mistakes and progressing the way most of these other high caliber QB's have. To be excellent in this league year in and year out you need a QB that keeps getting better. In the short sampling we have to analyze he's shown that he is a player that can develop and improve. If he keeps growing as a player we will be in very good shape for the foreseeable future. Take a look at how his progression matches some other top QB's. The last 6 games Geno's played (4 last year, 2 this year): 107-176 passing for 60.7% and 1,584 yds 6 TD's with 4 INT's plus an additional 250 yards of rushing and 4 TD's. 60.7% completion; 1,834 combined rushing/passing yds, 10 TD's, 4 INT's An equivalent sampling of Andrew Luck (last 4 of rookie year, 2 of second season): 103-190 passing for 54.2% and 1,277 yds 9 TD's with 1 INT plus an additional 105 yards rushing with 1 TD 54.2% completion, 1,382 combined rushing/passing yds, 10 TD's, 1 INT An equivalent sampling of Aaron Rodgers (using last 4 games of his first full year as a starter and then second year (2008 - 2009) 122-199 passing for 61.3% and 1,586 yds 10 TD's with 3 INT's plus an additional 69 yards rushing with 0 TD's 61.3% completion, 1,655 combined rushing/passing yds, 10 TD's, 3 INT's It's not much to go on but it's what we have and it compares favorably to other great QB's. Plus, anyone here who watches the games can see Geno is learning, getting better and has room to grow (upside). I never saw this out of Sanchez. I never saw it from Chad (stayed the same). Never saw it from Vinny. They were who they were and didn't continue to improve when they got here. Geno is proving that he can grow in this league. We may have something here in a QB. If we do we have a chance. This is why all things considered I am bullish about the state of our program.
JetsFanInDenver
Stats apart he does pass the eye test when it comes to his play. He looks like he has grown as a QB and while he is still commits some foolish blunders as evidenced in the first game there is something in Geno's play for JETS fans to be excited about. Another thing is going into his second season he has a sum total of ONE more weapon in the form of Decker. Hopefully Amaro, Enunwa develop during the course of this and the next season to give him more talent to target.
Integrity28
Geno is going to be good. Hall of famer? Top 5 in the leauge? Nah. He's going to be in the top 15 QBs by next year though, and that should be enough to win with if we continue to surround him with talent. Where's that botchagalupe that always calls him Eugene? CM28
I also like that his two INT´s are nothing alike the ones he threw last year. One monster play by the DB, which he saw. And the other a result of bad protection and extremely bad work of Sudfeld. He really have made me impressed and I love to spread the word here. If Geno continues to play at this level I will be happy, if he can play even better, I will be extatic and Idzik will be golden.
De-Jet-Erate/Duane
I am glad to see him progress. I hope he continues to grow. It would be nice to know matter of factly that we have the Qb of the future and don't have to add that to the list of holes to fill in next years draft. Yup, I agree 100% with this. I don't think he has elite QB talent, but I think he can be every bit as good as the next group down, and better than that schlub who won 2 SB's that shares our house. Il Mostro
Geno will be better than Eli career-wise. But Huckleberry has the two rings, strictly by being in the right place at the right time. What the point is, I have no clue. That is all.

Jetlife33
Had faith in Geno from the start, not many can say that. He showed flashes last year and has shown definite improvement this year. Something Sanchez never showed(someone who I didn't have faith in) On a side note if Salas doesn't drop that TD Week 1 and the timeout doesn't get called Week 2 then Geno's numbers are even better. The only problem I've had with Geno so far this season was the 2 fumbles( 1 lost, 1 recovered) in Week 1 vs the Raiders.
dbatesman
There's still plenty of room for improvement, but through two games he's a completely different player than he was last season.

Agreed. What we have to hope for now is that the improvement continues and Geno doesn't stall while there's still much to improve on(turnovers, consistency, etc.)
RutgersJetFan
I'm please with what I've seen so far, despite the efficiency numbers still not being all that great. However it is still hard to tell because it is fairly obvious that Marty is masking things by sticking him in the gun so much.

His two biggest improvements from last year are his mechanics and pocket presence.

PatsFanTX
we need marty to just let him play stop the wildcat keep vick on the bench let the kid play That's not MM, that's all on Rex. If the HC had any balls, he'd tell MM to fu*k the wildcat and keep Vick's ass on the bench and just run his offense with Geno. That is what capable HC's would do. Arsis
Geno is much better than last year. He made the appropriate step up from year 1 to year 2. If he makes a similar step up next year we'll actually be a team.
Shadetree
Id like to see more touch passes like the TD to Decker. Once he stops missing the passes that call for some touch and accuracy (like the one to the wide open TE against the Raiders and the bomb to Decker in GB) I'll start believing. The "high misses" that he guns in there frustrate me cause it seems obvious from my buffalo wing-stained couch that he should be dropping those throws into the bread basket instead of grippin and rippin. Top 15 QBs don't miss those throws. I like the body language. He looks confident and he's not afraid of any throw. God, I hated when Sanchez looked like he was gonna cry. California Pussy. Clementi49
How about as Jet fans we just let him develop and let it play out. I know the NFL is a week to week drama filled league. But really Jet fans in particular take it way too far. He sucks, he's good, he's the worst, he's developing. Every single day/week it seems like any Jet player, especially that position is under constant fire. Everyone wants to proclaim their knowledge of the situation immediately without letting things just play out and giving guys a chance to learn. Next week if he has a bad game I guarantee there will be 7 new threads about how he is the worst qb to ever take the field.
GangisGreen
He has improved, I do believe he needs another WR before he can show what he really can do.

Next week if he has a bad game I guarantee there will be 7 new threads about how he is the worst qb to ever take the field. This thread takes a look back at his last six games, literally a third of his career. It's not week to week. We only have a small sampling to review with Geno. We are letting it play out and we're commenting on what we see. From my perspective I like what I see. I'm not suggesting we knee jerk any opinion on Geno. However, considering QB is the most important position on the team and good to great QB play is the top indicator of sustained success in the NFL I think it's worthwhile to weigh in on whether we think Geno has what it takes. What's your opinion? I am really starting to believe that Geno will be a very good NFL QB. He's good now. But what's has me very positive is how he's developing over time. He's actually progressing...which is what we need. And as mentioned that's why I'm bullish on our program right now. If he was descending we would be in big, big trouble. Jetmech
So far he's better than last year. As with any player in any sport I look at year 3 and beyond. Sustained performance not just a one year wonder or two or three good years. "If" Geno remains competitive this year the Jets at least are not looking for a top QB in this years draft. NCJETSFAN
He's playing ok as a qb but that's because we have a off cord . But it's not like he's lighting up the league here . Lets relax on how good he will be . Seems the scouting report is about right on geno can make the throws but inconsient in making them

If the HC had any balls, he'd tell MM to fu*k the wildcat and keep Vick's ass on the bench and just run his offense with Geno. That is what capable HC's would do. They went from three plays with Vick in the opener to two against Green Bay. Hopefully that trend continues down to zero and stays there. Not a single one of those plays has been effective. Unlike the way they used to run it with Sanchez, they haven't taken Geno off the field for this nonsense - which is a minor plus. But the Jets are so short handed of playmakers already, taking a RB or WR off the field for Vick is just dumb. With the current success rate, I'm hoping they're figuring that out, too.
