The New York Jets are auditioning former Buffalo Bills cornerback Brandon Smith today, according to a league source.

Smith has recovered from a broken fibula suffered during training camp. Several NFL teams have made inquiries about  Smith.

Smith has run the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds with a 40-inch vertical leap and bench pressed 225 pounds 19 times.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder excels in press coverage and is a converted wide receiver. He played wide receiver for the Carolina Panther and Seattle Seahawks.

Smith converted to cornerback at the suggestion of Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who recruited him as a cornerback out of high school when Carroll was at USC. Smith wound up playing for Arizona State as a receiver. Smith has also played for the Green Bay Packers.

Smith played in 25 career games in college as a receiver. Injuries, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament, affected his career production.

Wait, is he a (5'11, 175#) CB, or a (6'1, 205#) WR?

Two different guys.  Branden Smith is currently a senior at University of Georgia -- who will be draft eligible in 2015.

The guy the Jets signed is a former WR out of Arizona State.
