San Diego Road Trip

When they played Monday night there a few years ago, we stayed at the Westin (Gaslamp), had friends in the W, both were good locations. Can't go wrong in the Gaslamp, good restaurants and variety of nightlife. Crazy concentration of steakhouses there, more than a dozen - from the big national chains to local one-offs. We ate Fleming's one night, and Lou & Mickey's (i think? more of an old-school dinner-n-drinks scene)... both were very good.

Had lunch one afternoon at George's in La Jolla, beautiful view from atop a cliff over the water. Worth the short drive, I thought.

If you're interested, there will be a ton of Jets fans at Henry's Pub in the Gaslamp Quarter on Saturday night.  Tailgate will be in lot D5 at Qualcomm.

i'll be at the game.  i might have to check the tailgate out. these may be a dumb question, but is anyone invited to the tailgate? i'm defenitely interested in checking it out before the game. hell i might make it to that henry's pub on saturday night.

Any Jets fans going on this trip? I will be there with my Dad....

If anyone knows the area I would like to hear your thoughts...what to do, where to eat, etc.  Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

gaslamp district is pretty lively.   food wise, especially if your visiting from out of town, i would recommend getting some carne asada fries.    their real good and one of the popular things food wise in san diego.  drink wise, i would recommend the belching beaver brewery, especially their peanut butter stout.

anything specific you were looking to do, or try food wise.   asking, so i can get an idea of spots to recommend.

Have to go to The Field, an Irish pub with authentic Irish music. Close to downtown but not exactly sure where.

That place was great! me and T-Mac were standing in line at 6am for Irish football championship. ate corn beef and eggs in there and had a great time with the live irish music.

Okay, let me rephrase the scenario:  Jets fans will be congregating in section D5 of the parking lot.  Check out this FB page for further info regarding the possibility of getting some food.

Nothing specific really, was just looking for thoughts and since you provided thoughts on fries, I am forever grateful. :)

Depends where he is staying. If he's close to Mission Valley/downtown, just head to the gas lamp district downtown. Pretty hoppin. Tell him to make sure to be in the lot early too. They close the gates by 11:30 and then it is big suck time for everybody locked out. Most locals are in the lot by 9am for tailgating...it's a good tailgate too tell him.

Oh and new NFL rules..no bags or backpacks allowed. Not even purses for girls. 2 unopened bottles of water. Going to be hot.

here is his FB post fwiw

Have a good time at the game Sunday. At Qualcomm, don't be in the lot any later than 11am. Or you get turned away. Jets are gonna win. Bolts are too injured.

Thanks. We are actually staying at Harrah's which is about 50 minutes to an hour away. They are shuttling us in, we leave at 10am tomorrow.

We are wayyyyyy out of the way. But Harrah's is like a resort. We were going to go into San Diego today but honestly, it is so nice here we just hung out here. They have an amazing pool. So I sat poolside and just relaxed.  There is a lot I want to see in San Diego but being this far away with no car makes it tough.  My Dad gets these trips from Harrah's :).  They pick him up at the airport and rive him back when he is done. They don't want him leaving the casino otherwise, lol.  Which works for me when the casino is as nice as this one is.

If you see this washer toss game come and say hi. We'll be tailgating near D5 parking section.

How was your tailgate?

The shuttle bus left the hotel a lot later than we thought it would. We left the hotel around 11am, got there a few minutes after noon and went right in to the stadium.

The game itself -- yeah 800 other threads for that.  But besides the game it was a col experience. I didn't realize how old that stadium is. Definitely a step back in time but the fans were great.  Didn't see any issues, everyone was very nice. And there was a TON of Jets fans there.

I hope you had a lot more planned than just watching that abomination of a team play

Nope, that was it.  Just kidding.  Actually changed the plans when we got here, we are in the middle of nowhere but Harrah's has a pretty nice resort here.  So really just been enjoying everything here, I was kind of shocked by how nice it was. Huge room, awesome pool, free meals and movies on my Dad's comps lol.

The tailgate part of the day was great. Got there at 9 am, parked in D5 with a ton of Jets fans. People were having a great time and I got a lot of compliments on the washer toss game. Game was miserable, but luckily Chargers fans are typically pretty chill, just the usual sh*t talking. The only good thing about getting blown out was that over half of the fans left early, so getting out of the nightmare of a parking lot was a breeze. The heat was brutal though, sweating balls while watching your team get dismantled is no fun.

Sitting on a bus for an hour after the game with 85% Chargers fans...yeah that wasn't a lot of fun. :)

I was actually in the bar at one point thinking..."Phil...that poor bastard"

Ouch, were they at least friendly about it?

Honestly, everyone was great. They were just having fun!  The bus driver knocked over two cones and he said 20 points.

The Chargers fans were like that is 20 more than the Jets lol.
