Jets on pace to break record for fewest turnovers forced in a season

Record is 12 by the 2006 Washington Redskins. We currently have 3, with one being a fumbled snap by Rodgers and one being an interception from a guy we've never heard of(then followed by a Geno fumble).

What exactly does Rex do besides burn timeouts?

He invents buzz phrases like "simulating pressure" and "controlled chaos" so the media has something to praise him about as we watch opposing offense score TD's every game right before halftime.

It's odd, his dad, when he coached the Eagles, used to preach to force turnovers and stripping the ball. Every tackle, they were trying to pry the ball lose.

It is not only big hits that create turnovers, it is a mentality to try and strip the ball . Dallas (the little that I have watched them this year), seems to do a decent job at it.

It's freakin maddening...I guess were getting a true read on the talent level of the team, but hell...we do ourselves no favors. Every inch we have to earn on offense.

I think a lot has to do with we're not winning a whole lot of games for an extended period of time and our offense scares no one.

QB don't have to take chances against us, they understand all they have to do is play smart football, not force anything and they'll win because our offense is that bad.

I think facing Rodgers, Rivers, Manning and Brady in those 1st 7 games is part of it. Granted, we also faced a rookie QB in week 1 (who we owned, and didn't need to force a turnover) and Jay Cutler (who we should have gotten a T/O against) but that's a tough group overall.

"But, but, where would we be without the defensive savant that is Rex?"

If you think our defense has been the problem this year then I don't think you've been paying attention. Of course it would have helped if Idzik gave us 1 decent cornerback, but all of those guys just get overpaid and we can't get caught overpaying.

Every side of the ball is a problem, including the defense. And the old "the D only gives up big plays all the time because they're so tired from always being on the field!" line doesn't fly when we dominate the time of possession like we did against the Pasts.

Rex being married to a scheme that relies on having Sherman-esque CB's is a problem.

In short, Rex is the problem.

So apparently I have to convince you that an upgrade over Darrin Walls or Antonio Allen at CB would have helped the team? What a challenge!

No, I'd rather see you convince me that the defense isn't the problem this year. The statement you opened with before hedging with the obvious remarks about the secondary.

Question for all you resident geniuses: what if we fire Rex and the defense gets worse? We could be sitting here a year from now with Darrell Bevell as HC and a defense on pace for the least takeaways in the history of--what's that? Oh. I see.

Very funny but obv u didn't see the way rex held jay cutler down. U think any team goes outs and does that I don't think so dumb

The Jets defense never recovers a fumble.   It's uncanny and unlucky and infuriating.  The ball never bounces our way.

The NFL average for recovering a forced fumble is around 50%.  The Jets last year recovered only 2 of 18 forced fumbles - about a 6% rate.  That's nuts!

I dont have the 2014 stats but it seems like the same thing this year.

Forcing and recovering fumbles, like wrapping while tackling rather than diving and missing/overpursuit, require discipline and the consistent coaching of fundamental skills.  I'm not surprised by this turnover stat, nor by the unacceptable number of penalties, the poor clock management....all of this crap we see week in and week out.   We have pretty little defensive schemes and plans, but we have no actual fundamental coaching going on - then we're all amazed that nobody can execute.

(It was Kyle Wilson who dropped a giftwrapped Manning INT in his chest last weekend, maybe that was the third drop BroadwayJets couldn't remember.  Kyle "Exhibit A" Wilson, would probably be at worst a mediocre player if we had an actual coach (not just a schemer) or any meaningful player development in the organization.)
