Cam Newton

Had a lot of the same issues Jameis Winston had at FSU. Heavily scrutinized for poor character, stole another student's laptop, caught cheating at UF. He's been fine as a pro though.

Meh.... He take a team on his back deep into the playoffs yet ?

Yes, he's been fine as a pro. I'd rather a pocket passer, though. I watched jameis last night and came away with the same feeling...meh.

Cammy Cam never got accused of raping a drunk groupie. His scrutiny was largely over his transferring around the SEC via a community college in order to play. Winston will probably be a good quarterback for someone else but this isn't a Marino moment where we're looking at a guy saying, he may or may not blow coke on the weekends. We're talking about someone who clearly has a problem in life and should not have any sort of access to the biggest vice playground in North America

not so much this year

Yeah, I was referring to his career. Not one game or one bad stretch. I mean, from the first time he played in the NFL up until now, he's been incredibly productive.

You don't remember the cheating and stealing from another guys dorm room story? I'm sure that stuff happened and Cam didn't deny it. I think he pulled the whole "But I was a kid way back several months ago" or something along those lines. I don't remember it word for word, but he definitely did more than just get in trouble for transferring.

I could careless about what he's done off the field. Winston is horrible and no where near as good as Cam was.

How does a horrible player put up such incredible numbers and essentially never lose? I would think a horrible player would be pretty easy to game plan for and pitch a shutout every week. Kinda like Geno.

How did Matt Leinart win two national championships? How did Ty Detmer win the Heisman? How did Jarmarcus Russell? How did Andre Ware put up those numbers? Tim Tebow, Robbie Bosco, Danny Weurffel, Gino Torretta, Chris Weinke, Troy Smith, etc... ?

The world is littered with great, not good, but GREAT college QBs who never accomplished a friggin' thing in the NFL.

He was accused of cheating at UF and was facing expulsion.  He never admitted it, actually I think he denies it...but it was over turning in papers he didnt write.  Something like he turned in another students paper and then he bought one online and turned it in.  The laptop he got caught stealing red handed and threw it out of his dorm room window when the cops came to his door.

The biggest thing with Cam was the whole, Auburn paid his dad story.  I think he's got a little more common sense than Jameis Winston.  Winston actually comes off as being slow.

If anyone watched that game last night, you saw exactly what I've been saying about Winston.  Not very accurate, terrible decisions, one read QB, throws picks, only guys he can hit are wide open with nobody around.  He's just surrounded by the best talent in the Nation, playing cream puffs, so he puts up big numbers.  400 yards, 3 TD's but in a really ugly fashion.  He missed a lot of easy throws last night.

But, he pulled off another comeback and keeps stepping up on the big stage and winning, even with all the scrutiny.  Its tough to look past that characteristic of his game.  But I just dont think he's got the pro make-up.

Its college and they play cream puffs.  Like I said above, its hard to look past the winning in the face of adversity, the comebacks and the big numbers but watching that game last night...he's not that great.  He's just surrounded by the best players in the nation.

This.  He's that guy IMO.  And he's not the first of a long line of FSU QB's who would destroy inferior teams, put up monster numbers and flat out suck in the NFL.  Just like UF QB's...and many many others.

Cam Newton never raped anyone.

Mark sanchez accused of rape at USC. How quickly we forget.

What Klecko said and Winston didn't win that game. Cook, wide open receivers and lucky fumbles won that game. FSU could easily have 3 losses right now.

How popular a pick was Mark Sanchez? Also, the USC athletic department didn't interfere in the investigation.

Around here, some people still think sanchez got a raw deal.

I am glad we live in a nation of laws and not one where you personally decide their guilt or innocent based on whether you hsppen to like them or not, or whether you think they will make a good nfl player.

he currently doesn't have the pro make up but he could grow into it. The fact that he finds a way to win, even after making terrible mistakes, is a difference between him and Geno Smith. Smith had like 5 game losing streak his senior year and than shat the bed in the Pinstripe bowl. Winston is also streaky but it seems to last quarters not months.

Spare me the lecture. You and I both know that not all guys who walk are innocent. Get off your ridiculously small high horse and GFY.

I don't want Winston because I think he is a sh*tty football player. I only brought up his rape allegation because someone was comparing his off field antics to Cam Newton's and I was simply pointing out the FACT that Cam Newton was never accused of something remotely that bad.

If anyone on here really thinks Mark Sanchez got a raw deal with the Jets they are too stupid for me to have a football discussion with.

/end thread.

Ken Dorsey also consistently found ways to win at Miami. Do you want the Jets to sign him too?

Oooohhhhhh appears his high and mighty grand inquisitor no likey a little spirited discussion. Anyone who disagrees with you is therefore guilty of "ur too stupidz!" Just like every allegation against a player you dont like would result in a sentence of execution in your circus court of snap emotional decisions. What a rational and well-reasoning mind you have. You are totally qualified to make rational and objective decisions based on evidence. Well so long as you dont think the accused is "way too stupiders" to be entitled to a defense.

No, I hate Kobe Bryant but I believe him to be innocent based on the facts I've seen.

As usual, you have no clue what you are talking about and you are projecting your own bullsh*t in a vain attempt to win an argument you've clearly lost.

Did you watch Mark Sanchez play here for four years? Did you think he was any good? If you did, you're stupid and don't know enough about football for me to continue to discuss it with you.

The difference between me and you is when I think someone is stupid I don't try and reach for a petty insult. I simply tell them they are stupid and move on.

Terrilbe players don't go undefeated and win national championships...JMO

Now, he might be a terrible NFL player, but we'll have to wait and see for that.

You can say that what you see in him now doesn't translate into success in the NFL. Winston is a one read QB. If the guy he is supposed to throw to isn't open he is supposed to run.  And he often makes the wrong decision by trying to force a throw. Generally, QBs who are asked to do so little in college have a very tough time transitioning to the NFL.

He has never shown the ability to read a defense or go through progressions, make a decision and deliver the ball accurately. In this sense, he is very similar to Geno. Geno was a one read QB at WVU with less talent around him. You really think it's a coincidence that Winston hasn't looked nearly as good this year without Kelvin Benjamin?

Actually they do quite frequently.

Only three QBs have ever won a National Championship in college and a professional championship - Joe Montana, Joe Namath and Sammy Baugh.

That's a lot of national championship winning QBs who never won dick in the NFL.

Interesting take..I'm gonna' start watching more of him to see what I think for myself.  I've only seen him on SC so of course it's all good stuff.  I do remember him going something like 21-22 as a freshman which again, I just think is a pretty good feat for a guy who's terrible.  I'm intrigued.
